The Secret Sauce? Giving Back. 💙 After the Wagner Foodservice Secret Sauce Spring Show, over 600 POUNDS of food were donated to support Diakonia’s Food Pantry, helping us serve men, women, families, and Veterans across Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

Partners in Hope. 💙 Diakonia’s Community Coordinator, Susan Blaney, joined partners from across the Lower Eastern Shore at the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore Annual Meeting at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a powerful reminder of what can happen when organizations come together to meet real needs.

Reflecting on the impact made in 2025 and looking ahead to the work still to come, one thing is clear. When we work together, more families are supported, more individuals are reached, and more hope is shared across our community.

So much more than a meal. đź’™ Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Easter Food Bundle Giveaway at Diakonia. Because of this incredible community, families across the Lower Eastern Shore were able to gather around the table with a little more ease and a lot more hope this holiday.

A special thank you to Mountaire Farms for their generosity in making this event possible, and to our volunteer, Ed, who showed up early Saturday morning to pick up and deliver the cases for our neighbors in need.

Moments like this don’t happen without people who are willing to show up, lend a hand, and care for one another. Our volunteers make this work possible every single day.

Because of the generosity of St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, over 2,000 pounds of food and $600 in gift cards will help ensure individuals, families, and Veterans across Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore have access to the support they need.

This is what it looks like when a community comes together. When people give, when partners show up, when hope is shared.

Lights, camera… HOPE 💙 Hope shows up in exciting and unexpected ways in Only in Ocean City, an eight episode social series featuring Stephanie Pratt as she takes on six unique challenges across Ocean City all in just one day. No scripts. No do overs. Just real moments, real community, and a whole lot of heart.

With every challenge she completes, the impact grows and it all leads to something bigger than the experience itself, supporting a local nonprofit making a difference right here on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

Diakonia is honored and grateful to be chosen as the charity of choice for this incredible journey. It is a powerful reminder that when people come together with purpose, something amazing happens.

🎉 Happy Belated Birthday, Shantee Pike! 💙 Today we’re celebrating Shantee, Diakonia’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Case Manager and Healthcare Navigator, and the compassion, expertise, and dedication she brings to our mission every single day.

Shantee supports Veterans facing housing instability and barriers to medical care, helping connect them to critical health services through the Department of Veterans Affairs and local providers. Her background in community health and passion for mental health advocacy shine through in every interaction.

She also manages participants in the Shallow Subsidy program, staying closely connected to ensure Veterans maintain stability, access care, and continue moving forward.

What makes Shantee so impactful is her commitment to the whole person, not just housing, but health, stability, and long-term well-being.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Emily VanGasbeck! 💙 Today we’re celebrating Emily, Diakonia’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Case Manager focused on Homelessness Prevention, and the care, dedication, and purpose she brings to our mission every single day.

Emily works closely with Veteran families at risk of losing their housing, providing homelessness prevention and housing stability services that truly change lives. Over the past year, she has specialized in identifying at-risk households and delivering targeted support through resource coordination and crisis response.

What makes Emily so special is her passion for creating individualized service plans that empower Veterans to build long-term independence. She meets each family where they are, helping turn uncertainty into stability and fear into hope.
