Voting has started and we have just over 30 days to go. I have many of my signs left and I gotta tell you, they look GOOD. (I didn’t make them, but I can tell.)

Do you know a Port Sheldon resident who would support the Democratic ticket by putting up a sign? Are you one? I signed up for USPS Informed Delivery. Today they sent me a picture of my ballot on its way to me, but when I went to get my mail, IT WASN’T THERE!

Based on this picture I believe USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy used an election mailer from Water Resources Commissioner Joe Bush to attach magnetically to my ballot and so he could have it diverted to another address so it can be delayed so I don’t have as much time to vote.

Or am I mocking conspiracy theorists?

Right after Donald Trump was elected I knew I would have to do something in politics. That December I volunteered to be interviewed for the Holland Sentinel “Veteran’s Spotlight” series. My turn came on December 31, 2016.

If you ask David Barnosky what he did during his years in the U.S. Navy, he will reply with a sense of humor, "I made the ship go and the people glow."

I had been going to Ottawa County Democratic Party meetings for at least six years and I almost didn’t ask for their endorsement. I couldn’t bring myself to make that request until someone else running in the same race that I’d never seen at a meeting asked for it. I’ve clearly got a problem asking for help. So now I have one endorsement and I am still reluctant to ask for more. This post might be more about the therapy I need for some future race, but if I’m ever going to run again I have to get over this, so here goes.

I am not going to make any pointed requests. I am not going to risk being refused or to try to decide who might persuade my fellow voters. I’ll leave that to some future campaign. This time I’m just going ask and to hope my friends might do a little asking on my behalf if it looks like I will get too few. I’ll also ask that no one cheats and uses the Facebook group I founded to see that I get too many.

However, if any of my friends out there would endorse me for Port Sheldon Township Trustee, and if you think the people of Port Sheldon might like to know your opinion, I’d be grateful if you would add a comment to this post so the people of Port Sheldon might eventually learn about it.

My postcards are out and arriving in local homes. If you are in Port Sheldon Township and need a yard sign, I will deliver. I will be sensitive to the limited supplies and try to limit deliveries to high traffic areas. I hope you will be understanding in that regard as well. Each campaign has its own supplies and limitations.

With that said, I will try to deliver on requests for Harris/Walz for President/Vice President, Jessica Schwartz for the 4th District of the U.S. House, Tim Myers for the 88th District of the Michigan House, Danielle Smith for the 1st Ottawa County Commissioners District or for my own campaign, David Barnosky for Port Sheldon Township Trustee.

I will kick off my “open to volunteers time” at noon, and my secret campaign office is just my carport with a picnic table in the beautiful West Olive Estates Mobile Home Community. Big surprise, right?

960 printed postcards, 900 postcard postage stamps, 954 names on a list and a volunteer who created the Avery “Easy Peel” address label template. I’ve just finished creating all but the last 240 labels and those blanks are on the way. This mailing is made, it just needs to come together.

Getting close to the end of editing my mailing list and discovered I have a potential 104 year old constituent. (Playfully) I don’t know if I should go knock that door immediately or never, for fear of scaring them to death.

I plan to forget when they live and who am I kidding, in my race I was never going to do a lot of door knocking. 🙄

Today I will wrap some mindless tasks at home around the continuing grind putting together the data I have, selecting the names I will be personally sending my campaign mailing to. I am using the list from the Township and a database of alleged likelihood of partisan leanings to select one of two messages, or whether to message them at all.

Some households will get more than one card so I can respect the individuality of people who do not share a name. Some will only get one card to only one voter where they do not share ideals, perhaps a child in a parent’s home, or a wife where a husband is less Democratic leaning. I can’t know what dynamic I am mailing into for certain, but I try to choose wisely where my 56 cents worth of postage is spent.

Another day in a democracy.
