🔥 Prescribed burn notice: October 5-9 🔥

A prescribed burn will take place today (10/5) at Stearns Creek North, with two more burns planned later this week, weather permitting. These carefully managed burns help restore fire-dependent habitats, control invasive plants, and encourage native plant growth.

Monday, Oct. 5: Stearns Creek North
• Approximately 3-acre oak savanna unit
• Expected burn window: 12-5 PM

Tuesday, Oct. 6: Grand Ravines North
• Approximately 7-acre grassland unit
• Expected burn window: 1-4 PM
• Traffic entering the park may be briefly stopped (~10 minutes)
• May shift to Wednesday or Thursday depending on conditions

Friday, Oct. 9: Hemlock Crossing
• Approximately 3-acre grassland unit
• Expected burn window: 11:30 AM-3 PM
• Part of our Learn & Burn event! The public is welcome to join us to see prescribed fire in action and learn how it helps restore native habitats.

Burns are conducted by trained professionals, and local fire departments are notified in advance. Smoke from these planned burns does not need to be reported.

Parks will remain open, but some trail sections may close temporarily. Please give crews space and expect smoke near the burn areas during these times.

The Nature Education Center will be closed Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
