JUNETEENTH NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY 2026

Honoring the Third Annual Juneteenth Film Festival in West Orange

BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Susan McCartney, and the Township Council of the Township of West Orange, do hereby proclaim June 19th as Juneteenth National Independence Day and recognize and celebrate the Third Annual Juneteenth Film Festival and commend its organizers, participants, sponsors, volunteers, filmmakers, and community partners for their dedication to preserving history, advancing cultural awareness, and enriching the quality of life for all residents. We encourage all residents to participate in the Juneteenth Film Festival and join in celebrating freedom, culture, creativity, and the enduring power of storytelling.

What a day! Mayor McCartney sends a huge THANK YOU to the Downtown West Orange Alliance and their dedicated volunteers for another incredible West Orange Street Fair this past Saturday.

The food, vendors, music, and activities brought our community together in the best way and we were thrilled to welcome the FIFA NYNJ Skyline to Shoreline Road Tour downtown! A special shoutout to the WO High School State Champion Soccer Team for lending a hand.

None of this happens without our amazing Township departments working behind the scenes and on the street:

Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works & Health Department

And a warm thank you to our incredible community partners and volunteers who showed up to share their messages:

Friends of Thomas Edison, Public Relations Commission, Human Relations Commission, West Orange Public Library, Boy Scouts Troop 2, West Orange Hispanic Foundation, West Orange African Heritage Organization, West Orange Women's Club and more…
