In 2021, the State of New Jersey enacted a law that requires all water providers to share with customers the material of the utility-owned and customer-owned service lines that lead to their property, notify customers with service lines that are lead or galvanized steel, and replace them by 2031.

To meet this goal, New Jersey American Water has launched the Lead Service Line Replacement Program. NJAW will begin service line identification canvassing with the support of CDM Smith beginning on or about May 18, 2026. Canvassing is expected to take 16-18 weeks as there are nearly 7400 customer side services that are unknown.

Please be aware that all inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith), high visibility logo vests and will have NJAW issued ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program and will then ask to enter the customer’s home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space). The inspector will take exterior photos of the house and house number and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified on a tablet. Inspections generally take 15-minutes or less and at no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers not to have an internal inspection completed will be directed to alternatives to the inspections including self-reporting.

Movie Night at the Pool! Join the Recreation Dept. for its Annual Movie in the Pool. This event is open to all West Orange Residents (Do Not Have to be a Pool member). This is a NO SWIM event - you must stay on a pool raft at all times during the movie.

Residents of Nutman Place and Mitchell Street (from Rollinson Street to Valley Road) were mailed letters providing a brief update on the new parking regulations and encourages residents on these streets to complete a survey regarding possible inclusion of Nutman Place and Mitchell Street in Parking Zone #12.

On August 18, 2026, the Township Council adopted Parking Ordinance #2987-26, establishing Residential Permit Parking Zone #12 on Pillot Place, Quinby Place, Riggs Place, Rollinson Street (from Northfield Avenue to South Valley Road), and Swaine Place.

As Nutman Place and Mitchell Street (from Rollinson Street to Valley Road) are not currently part of Residential Permit Parking Zone #12, beginning September 8, 2026, residents will not be permitted to park on these streets Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM, once the permit regulations take effect. Active enforcement and issuance of summonses for non-compliance will begin after the grace period on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The Township is seeking input from residents of Nutman Place and Mitchell Street (from Rollinson Street to Valley Road) about possible inclusion in Residential Permit Parking Zone #12. On August 14, 2026, the Department of Engineering mailed a survey to gather feedback on whether residents support a permit program.

Please note that completing the survey does not automatically add the streets to the parking zone. The survey is intended to help the Township understand resident interest and determine whether further consideration of expanding Residential Permit Parking Zone #12 is appropriate. We appreciate participation and encourage residents to share feedback by completing the survey.

The Township Council has enacted Parking Ordinance #2987-26 which is intended to improve and prioritize parking for residents of Pillot Place, Quinby Place, Riggs Place, Rollinson Street (from Northfield Avenue to South Valley Road) and Swaine Place.

Permit parking will be required on the above-mentioned streets. These streets will be designated as Residential Permit Parking Zone #12. Ordinance #2987-26 will take effect on September 8, 2026, and will be enforced from 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday. A Residential Parking Decal authorizes parking in legal spaces on these streets but does not guarantee or reserve a parking space.

Beginning Monday, August 24, 2026, eligible residents must apply for a Residential Parking Decal online at https://pdlinx.app/ParkingPermit. Approved decals may be obtained at the Township’s Valley Sub Station, 549 Valley Road, by appointment only from 7:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday. Applicants must provide proof of a valid New Jersey driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance for each vehicle. Each permit must be renewed annually by January 1.

Active enforcement and issuance of summonses for non-compliance will commence after the grace period concludes on Monday, October 5, 2026. If you have any questions concerning obtaining a “Free Residential Parking Permit”, please contact the Traffic Bureau at (973) 325-4045.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT TOWN HALL

Big things are brewing in West Orange!
Mayor McCartney has submitted a Letter of Interest to bring a 6’ public art FIFA Soccer Ball Sculpture to our Township through an Arts 14C donation offer, another example of the commitment to keep West Orange vibrant and connected.

• The proposed spot is the historic Main Street corridor, steps from the Thomas Edison National Historical Park and Lafayette Playground's new inclusive play space and future futsal court.
• Why soccer, why West Orange? Because we live it through programs offered by our Recreation Department and Mountain Top League starting at age 3, serving 2,500+ kids a year, to our West Orange High School boys' soccer team taking the 2025 NJSIAA Group 4 State Championship and Marcus Jackson earning the Gatorade National Player of the Year honor.

This sculpture would be more than public art: it's a landmark for community, culture, and connection, building on the momentum of this summer's Art of the Game: Soccer Ball Art exhibit presented by the West Orange Arts Council.
