Fire Chief Anthony Vecchio was hired by the West Orange Fire Department in June of 2001. Chief Vecchio quickly rose through the ranks after serving as a firefighter for 9 years and was promoted to Captain. Not long after, Chief Vecchio was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2013. Chief Vecchio was promoted to the rank of Fire Chief in 2017. Chief Vecchio retires after faithfully serving the West Orange Fire Department and the Township of West Orange after 25 years of service. Chief Vecchio will be sorely missed, and we congratulate Chief Vecchio on his well-earned retirement.

Firefighter Steven Cusano was hired by the West Orange Fire Department in June of 2001. Firefighter Cusano has spent many years working on Engine 4, covering the Pleasantdale section of West Orange. Firefighter Cusano was the first Latino hired by WOFD in 2001, and one of his favorite accomplishments is his response in 2014 for a trench rescue where he received a Merit Award! Firefighter Cusano has proudly served the Township of West Orange and the West Orange Fire Department for 25 years. We thank Firefighter Cusano for his dedicated service. You will be sorely missed; enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

Captain Thomas Heys was hired by the West Orange Fire Department in June of 2001. Captain Heys spent 16 years as a firefighter before being promoted to the rank of Fire Captain in June of 2017. Captain Heys could be found for the last years of his career working as the Captain of Engine 2 off of Main Street. We thank Captain Heys for his 25 years of service to the Township of West Orange and the West Orange Fire Department. You will be sorely missed; congratulations on your retirement!

Captain Richard Smith was hired by the West Orange Fire Department in June of 2001. Captain Smith spent 14 years as a firefighter before being promoted to the rank of Fire Captain in 2015. Captain Smith spent many years serving as the Captain of Engine 4 in the Pleasantdale section of town before spending time as the Captain of Ladder 1. WOFD got to spend the morning at Move the Spectrum! We handed out helmets , pens, stress balls and coloring books. Students got to try on gear, hold equipment and meet the Engine 4 crew. Special shout out to Admin Jaime who put together our table and goodies and made sure everyone was walking around with their WOFD helmets! 🧑🏼‍🚒

On February 24th West Orange Fire Department promoted now Deputy Chief Gary Braus and Captain Brendan Curry.
Deputy Chief Braus and Captain Curry both are born and raised in West Orange and graduated from West Orange High School. Coincidentally both also grew up playing hockey and could be seen playing with the WOFD/WOPD hockey team.

Deputy Chief Braus was hired in 2014, and was supported by his wife Kayleigh and children Henry and Claire.

Captain Curry was hired in 2017 and supported by his fiancé Rosey and three boys Ian, Theodore and Roman.

WOFD is excited to see where their careers lead us!
