High temperatures ranged from 97 to 100 across most of the region today, with Mount Vernon, IL soaring to 102 degrees! Peak heat index readings ranged from 104 to 108 degrees. Heat index readings at this level are quite rare in the month of September in our region. Looking back at the data for Paducah, the last time we observed a heat index over 103 degrees in the month of September was back in 1991! We have now hit 104+ on back to back days (we hit 105 in Paducah yesterday), and have a good chance to add to that tally the next several days. What a remarkable heatwave this is for so late in the season!
