A message from the office of the President Afifa Khaliq: "As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, this is a moment to reconnect with the values that inspired people to stand up against oppression and fight for a new nation built on freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Today, as these values face new threats, workers know that protecting them is not someone else’s responsibility—it is our duty. We carry that fight forward at the bargaining table through strong union contracts, in our workplaces by standing together, and in our communities through campaigns for dignity, justice, and a better future for every working family. The promise of America has never been fulfilled by staying silent; it has always moved forward because ordinary people had the courage to organize, fight, and demand better. Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸"

We end this month with a spotlight on our fearless President, Afifa Khaliq. 💪✨

Afifa stands as a beacon of strength and resilience, embodying the belief that the dignity of our work should never depend on the whims of employers. Every member of our union deserves respect and recognition for their hard work, and Afifa fights tirelessly to ensure that our rights and pay reflect our dedication and effort.

Workers like you deserve dignity; the labor we put in deserves compensation that acknowledges our contributions and sacrifices. Afifa knows this truth deeply, and her commitment is unwavering. She is ready to tackle any challenge and face any fight head-on, ensuring that every member receives what they rightfully deserve.

With her blood, sweat, and tears invested in this cause, Afifa never backs down. Her determination fuels our collective strength, and together, we will continue to advocate for fairness, respect, and justice in the workplace. 💜 Together, we rise!

Angelina W. is the powerhouse behind the scenes who keeps SEIU FPSU moving forward through her work in Operations. For nearly two decades, Angelina has helped strengthen our union and support the hardworking families of Florida—often in ways most people never see, but everyone benefits from.

Angelina is union because of her son—and for every family that needs a voice and real support. She believes that when people work hard, they deserve better pay, safer workplaces, dignity on the job, and respect—not just promises.

Being part of a union matters because it means we don’t have to face workplace challenges alone. A union creates collective power—the power to negotiate, to protect one another, and to build a better future for our families and our communities.
And it takes people like Angelina to make that power real. She’s one of the heroes working day and night—supporting members, helping the union run smoothly, and ensuring the work gets done so that members can focus on what matters most: their jobs, their families, and their lives.

Thank you, Angelina, for your dedication, your heart, and your years of service to Florida’s working families. 💪🏽
