National Social Media Day

Social media isn’t just a place to connect, it’s one of the most powerful tools small businesses and residents can use to access opportunities, stay informed, and strengthen our community.

For small businesses, social media is a game changer. It helps you:
• Showcase your services and products to a wider audience
• Build trust and credibility through consistent storytelling
• Connect with customers in real time
• Learn about grants, workshops, and programs that support business growth

For Palm Beach County residents, social media is a direct line to resources that can make a real difference. Through the Department of Housing and Economic Development, you can discover:
• Housing assistance programs
• Small business support and funding opportunities
• Community development initiatives
• Training, workshops, and events designed to help you thrive

When we use social media responsibly, by sharing accurate information, engaging respectfully, and staying connected to trusted sources, it becomes a powerful tool for empowerment.

Today is a reminder that social media can help us learn, grow, and access the resources that move Palm Beach County forward. Let’s use it wisely, intentionally, and in ways that uplift our community.

Palm Beach County is celebrating a major milestone during National Homeownership Month, Mary Fonner officially closed on her new home on June 24, becoming the very first homeowner to benefit from the County’s new $2 million Homebuyer Match Pilot Program. Launched by the Board of County Commissioners and administered by the Department of Housing & Economic Development, the program provides up to $50,000 in matching assistance to help workforce families overcome financial barriers to homeownership.

Ms. Fonner's closing marks the beginning of a new chapter not only for her family, but for other residents who applied for are selected in through lottery rounds. This is the start of a new chapter for local families and reflects the County’s commitment to moving quickly from policy to impact. Congratulations to Mary Fonner, the program’s first success story, and to all the future homeowners who will follow.

As we wrap up National Community Development Week 2026, we’re proud to celebrate the projects, partnerships, and people who make community development possible in Palm Beach County. From infrastructure improvements to affordable housing and supportive services, federal programs like CDBG and HOME help us invest in safer, stronger, and more resilient neighborhoods.

This week highlighted the power of collaboration — from new senior housing to park improvements, solar lighting, and essential services that support our most vulnerable residents. National Community Development Week reminds us how federal resources like CDBG and HOME translate into real, local impact.

Thank you to our partner departments, municipalities, housing authorities, and community organizations for your continued collaboration. We appreciate everyone who contributes to this work and helps strengthen our communities year‑round. Together, we’re building opportunities and improving quality of life for residents across Palm Beach County.

As we continue celebrating National Community Development Week 2026, Housing and Economic Development staff visited Autumn Ridge — a newly completed senior housing community made possible in part through the Federal HOME Program and our partnership with the West Palm Beach Housing Authority. This development expands access to safe, high‑quality, and affordable homes for seniors, supporting residents as they age in place with dignity and stability.

Since 1992, the HOME program has built or rehabilitated nearly 1.4 million affordable homes 🏡 The HOME program is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments, designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households.

Autumn Ridge reflects how federal funding and strong local partnerships can create lasting community impact across Palm Beach County. We’re proud to support projects that strengthen housing opportunities for the residents who need them most.

As we continue celebrating National Community Development Week 2026, we’re proud to highlight two recently completed CDBG funded infrastructure projects: improvements at Ilex Park and the installation of new Lakewood Road Street Lighting.

Completed through strong partnerships with our county municipalities and capital improvements colleagues, these investments enhance safety, accessibility, and overall neighborhood quality of life by leveraging federal grant funding to meet local needs.

These projects reflect our ongoing commitment to building vibrant, resilient communities throughout Palm Beach County. We’re grateful for the collaboration that make these community investments possible.
