We are aware of the ongoing law enforcement situation at The Ben Hotel and want to share the following information provided by the Palm Beach County Sheriffโ€™s Office (PBSO):

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., PBSO Communications received a call reporting a shooting in the 1400 block of Tangle Orchid Trace in Loxahatchee. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult female deceased from apparent gunshot wound(s).

During the preliminary investigation, deputies learned that the suspected shooter had fled the scene and traveled to a location within the City of West Palm Beach.

Further investigation determined that the suspect had barricaded himself inside a hotel room at The Ben Hotel, located on Narcissus Avenue in West Palm Beach. West Palm Beach Police Department SWAT personnel responded to the hotel and deployed in an effort to safely apprehend the suspect.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Palm Beach Post reporter Alexandra Clough reports that New Orleans-based Veho Hospitality Group plans to open two new Mexican concepts in Downtown West Palm Beach.

The group, which operates Tacos del Cartel at 533 Clematis Street, plans to open Taquerรญas Carnalito, a taco restaurant, and Tragos Amargos, a hidden speakeasy inside the restaurant, at 301 Clematis Street in the Banyan & Olive office complex. The concepts are expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027.

Why it matters for Downtown West Palm Beach:
๐ŸŸฆ Brings new dining and nightlife options to Clematis Street
๐ŸŸฆ Shows continued investment from an existing downtown business operator
๐ŸŸฆ Fills a visible ground-floor space in the downtown core
๐ŸŸฆ Supports activity for nearby office workers, residents and visitors

We recently celebrated the opening of Garden Butcherโ€™s first West Palm Beach location at 501 S. Olive Avenue, marking the health-focused cafรฉ and marketโ€™s second location in South Florida.

The new location also brings new life to a piece of downtown history. The building was once home to the historic West Palm Beach Trailways Station, a longtime transportation hub that Garden Butcher has transformed while preserving elements of its distinctive character.

We are excited to welcome Chef Erin Leeds and the Garden Butcher team to the Downtown West Palm Beach community and see this unique space begin its next chapter.

Understanding how development projects move through the approval process is an important part of staying informed about changes taking place in our community.

The City of West Palm Beach has created a new resource outlining the development approval process, from the initial application and staff review to public hearings, advisory boards, and City Commission consideration, when applicable.

We encourage Downtown West Palm Beach residents, businesses, property owners, and stakeholders to review the process and learn more about how and when opportunities for public participation may occur. Learn more: wpb.org/planning
