The Children's Healing Institute

The Children's Healing Institute Founded in 1988, the mission of The Children’s Healing Institute is to prevent child abuse by strengthening families facing crisis, challenge, and change.

Producing confident and capable parents; Keeping kids safe & secure in their own homes; Helping families stay intact; Changing the course for kids & their future. CHI educates and empowers families with focus on reducing stress, promoting health, building parenting skills, increasing access to resources, and strengthening support systems. Programs include TEACUP Preemie (resources and support for

families with a premature infant in the NICU), Bridging Hope (bereavement support and education for grieving children), Parent Aide Mentoring (in-home family mentoring and parenting support), and Healthy Start (care coordination and education for at-risk pregnant and new mothers). Since 2004, our annual Turn on the Light Conference educated the community with focus on child abuse and neglect prevention, intervention and advocacy, and is attended by hundreds of professionals, parents and volunteers.

Storm season and your kids

September is National Preparedness Month, and we are in the thick of hurricane season. Most storm checklists cover water and batteries. Fewer cover what a child needs: a familiar comfort object, a simple honest explanation of what is happening, and as much of the normal routine as you can hold onto. September is NICU Awareness Month — a time set aside nationally to recognize the families whose first weeks or months as parents happened not in a nursery at home, but in a neonatal intensive care unit, surrounded by monitors, incubators, and uncertainty.

Some of the biggest journeys begin the smallest. 💙 Our TEACUP Preemie & NICU Support program walks alongside families of premature and medically fragile babies across Palm Beach County — at the bedside and all the way home — in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
