Threads of courage stitched in red,
Dreams of freedom in white are spread.
A field of stars in midnight blue,
Whispers stories brave and true.

Since June 14, 1777, its colors fly—
A nation’s hope against the sky.
We honor the past, the sacrifice made,
In every stripe and star displayed.

Today we honor, remember, and stand—
Grateful hearts for this sacred land.

On This Day in 1968 -- Southwest Missouri State College’s West Plains Residence Center welcomed two new educators to its growing faculty. Mrs. Carol L. Silvey joined as a history instructor, alongside Vernon L. Cooper, who taught economics and political science.
Moments like these reflect the ongoing commitment to education and the people who helped shape learning in our community.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We remember them with gratitude and reflect on the freedoms they secured for us all.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who filled our lives with stories, wisdom, and a love of reading.

From bedtime books to lifelong lessons, mothers help shape the narratives we carry with us. Today we celebrate the ones who taught us to turn the page, keep learning, and cherish every chapter.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and our latest library display is here to remind you that taking care of your mind is just as important as remembering where you left your book (we won’t judge either way).
Stop by to browse a thoughtfully curated collection of books and resources focused on mental wellness, self-care, and resilience. Whether you’re looking for insight, a fresh perspective, or just a quiet escape, there’s something here for you.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.” — Anne Lamott

When someone says, “can you just quickly look up the history of Grandin School,” and suddenly you’re six books deep, three tabs open, and questioning your life choices. Between tracking down dates in aging volumes and double-checking facts online, what started as a quick answer turned into a full historical investigation. On the bright side, I now know more about Grandin School than anyone who didn’t ask.
