This week, City of West Plains Utilities held a training day focused on safety and emergency response. Employees from Utilities and Transportation spent the day participating in hands-on training designed to prepare them for situations they may encounter while working in the field.
The morning focused on annual Bucket Truck Rescue and Pole Top Rescue training. These exercises give crews the opportunity to practice safely rescuing a coworker who may become injured or incapacitated while working from a bucket truck or on a utility pole. While we hope these skills are never needed, regular training helps ensure our crews are prepared to respond quickly and safely if an emergency occurs.
In the afternoon, Air Evac 1 - West Plains, MO provided Landing Zone Training. Employees learned how to identify and set up a safe landing area for a medical helicopter during an emergency. The training covered site selection, safety procedures, and communication needed to assist air medical crews when every minute counts.
Training days like these are an important part of keeping our employees safe. By regularly practicing emergency procedures and working with our community partners, our crews are better prepared to respond when needed and continue providing reliable service to the residents of West Plains.
