Elevated fire danger expected again today as gusty southerly winds up to 30 to 40 mph at times combine with a dry air mass. Elevated Fire Danger means that weather and land conditions are favorable for erratic fire spread, if a fire does start.

Pumpkin Center would like to thank Pomona fire department, the U.S Forest Service and the helicopter pilots that assisted with our fire yesterday. Multiple structures were saved. Remember do not try and do a large controlled burn by yourself especially during red flag conditions.

Today, we pause to honor and remember a true pillar of the fire service.

After dedicating 40 years to serving others, Fire Chief Roy Sims retired in 2020, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to protect and strengthen our community for generations. His leadership and vision were instrumental in securing over $2 million in federal grant funding and additional resources that helped shape West Plains Fire & Rescue and the Region G All-Hazards Response Team into the capable, well-equipped organizations they are today.

His impact went far beyond equipment and funding — it was felt in the readiness of our crews, the safety of our responders, and the lives saved because of his commitment to the mission. The fire service is better because he served, and we are grateful for the foundation he helped build.

We honor his service, his dedication, and the lasting mark he leaves on the fire service family.
Rest easy — your watch has ended, but your legacy lives on. 🚒🖤
