The burn ban for West Point Fire Department has been lifted.

West Point Fire Protection District
Due to dry weather the West Point Fire protection district has issued a burn ban beginning September 12, 2025 until further notice. Recreational fires will be permitted if they are supervised at all times and fully extinguished when not attended to. They must be contained to a fire containment made of concrete blocks, steel or stones.
Violations of this burn ban may result in a fine to cover the apparatus and suppression cost, if the fire department is dispatched.

The Burn ban that was in place for for West Point Fire District has officially been lifted as of this morning (8:00am on Monday, March 17th). We do still advise to use caution when burning and never leave the fire unattended. Also, if you are burning you need to report it to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office that it is a controlled burn.

As of this evening it has been decided that West Point Fire Department District will go under a no burn order along with several other Fire Departments in the county. There have been several grass fires and burning of brush around our area that has gotten out of control and even with the moisture we got last week the grass and brush is still very dry on top. The winds we have been having has deemed it to dangerous to be burning. So as of these evening Tuesday, March 11th at 8pm the West Point Fire Department has issued a no burn ban until further notice.

On behalf of the Limkemann’s, they would like to thank all the firefighters/departments, ambulances, Mabas 55, and Red Cross for saving three hog buildings full of hogs for them. They would also like to thank all of the people who brought out water/ drinks to keep the firefighters and personnel well-hydrated while they worked on controlling the fire.
