Reiterating this important safety message from The West Point Police Department and the Town of West Point, Virginia.
❗ As the school year comes to a close and there is an increase in visitor traffic in our community, we want to reiterate this important safety message on behalf of the Town of West Point, Virginia and the West Point Police Department.
Parents and caregivers are strongly urged to make helmets a must every time kids ride bikes, scooters, and E-Bikes.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 60% and serious brain injury by nearly 50%.
We continue to observe riders carrying helmets on their bikes, scooters, and E-Bikes instead of wearing them—helmets only work when they’re properly worn.
Please remind children to:
• Ride in designated areas such as sidewalks, bike paths, and trails whenever possible
• Never ride into or in front of traffic
• Stay alert and follow basic safety practices
If you observe unsafe riding or have concerns, please contact the West Point Police Department's non-emergency number at (804) 843-2670, or call 911 if there is immediate danger.
Let’s work together to keep our kids safe.
