Reiterating this important safety message from The West Point Police Department and the Town of West Point, Virginia.

❗ As the school year comes to a close and there is an increase in visitor traffic in our community, we want to reiterate this important safety message on behalf of the Town of West Point, Virginia and the West Point Police Department.

Parents and caregivers are strongly urged to make helmets a must every time kids ride bikes, scooters, and E-Bikes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 60% and serious brain injury by nearly 50%.

We continue to observe riders carrying helmets on their bikes, scooters, and E-Bikes instead of wearing them—helmets only work when they’re properly worn.

Please remind children to:
• Ride in designated areas such as sidewalks, bike paths, and trails whenever possible
• Never ride into or in front of traffic
• Stay alert and follow basic safety practices

If you observe unsafe riding or have concerns, please contact the West Point Police Department's non-emergency number at (804) 843-2670, or call 911 if there is immediate danger.

Let’s work together to keep our kids safe.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer — it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we cherish.

We are grateful for the courage, dedication, and selfless service demonstrated by our nation's military members.

We join our community in honoring our fallen heroes and remembering the families who continue to carry their legacy forward. We ask everyone to take a moment today to remember those who never came home.

May we never forget their courage, sacrifice, and service.

May 17–23, 2026 marks EMS Appreciation Week, with this year’s theme: "Improving Outcomes, Together."

This week we recognize and celebrate the dedicated EMS professionals who answer the call when seconds matter most.

Every day, our EMS providers serve with compassion, skill, and professionalism — delivering lifesaving care, supporting our community, and standing side by side with our fire personnel on every response.

The theme "Improving Outcomes, Together" reflects the teamwork that drives emergency services. From dispatchers and EMS providers to firefighters, law enforcement, hospital staff, and our community partners, we all play a role in providing the highest level of care to those we serve.

We are grateful for the long hours, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment of our EMS personnel. Please join us in thanking them for all they do — this week and every day.

Lights. Camera. Action.

But the real heroes don’t work in Hollywood — they serve their community.

This spotlight belongs to those who’ve already earned it.

The West Point Volunteer Fire Department is currently recruiting experienced firefighters and EMS providers ready to bring their skills, leadership, and dedication back to the front line — and continue serving a community that depends on volunteers like you.

Because when the call comes, experience matters.

Step onto the red carpet. Step into service. Find our interest form here:

Tonight, WPVFD responded to a patient injured in an ATV accident. Our highly trained and experienced Firefighter/Medics were able to stabilize the patient in preparation for a flyout by LifeEvac. Special thanks also to King William County Sheriff's Office deputies who were a huge help!

The community is fortunate to have great public safety partners in their time of need.
