West Reading Borough Police The West Reading Police department serves the 4,268 residents within the borough of West Reading PA Approximately 4,268 people call West Reading Borough home.

The West Reading Police Department provides protection to an area of about 1 square miles, located west of the City of Reading. The West Reading Police Department is a full service Law Enforcement Agency, providing police coverage to the Borough 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Department currently has 14 full time Officers. The majority of our Officers serve in the Patrol Division, comprised of 3 patrol squads, each commanded by a Sergeant. In 2019 we welcomed K-9 Zea to the WRPD. The WRPD also offers a full time investigative division, comprised of 2 full time Criminal Investigators and has a full and part time administrative aide. Officers of the WRPD are also assigned or participate in multi-jurisdictional functions such as the Berks County Emergency Response Team, the District Attorney’s Office Narcotics and Major Case Task Force Team.

The West Reading Police Department is proud to congratulate Sergeant Brandon Breitenstein on his promotion to Sergeant! 🎉👮‍♂️

Sergeant Breitenstein’s path to this milestone reflects years of dedication to the community and a commitment to continual growth in his profession.

He began his career serving part-time officer with Robeson Township and Brecknock Township and full-time with Douglass Township before joining the West Reading Police Department full-time in May of 2017. From the start, he distinguished himself as a dependable and knowledgeable officer, later becoming a Field Training Officer responsible for shaping and mentoring new members of the department. 🎓🚓

His drive to develop advanced skills led him to earn certification as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), becoming one of only a select group of officers in the county to hold this credential. 🔬 In 2019, he was selected as the department’s K9 handler, a role he continues to serve with his K9 partner, Zea. 🐕‍🦺

Sergeant Breitenstein’s promotion recognizes not only his past accomplishments, but the leadership, professionalism, and integrity he brings to the department every day. 💙💪

Upcoming Event and Road Closures - 2026 Reading Hospital Road Run

TRAFFIC & PARKING RESTRICTION ALERT – This Sunday, October 18, 2026, The Friends of Reading Hospital’s annual road run will take place. This year this event consists of a Half Marathon, a 5K race and a 1 mile Fun Walk/Run. The races will be occurring within West Reading and Wyomissing Boroughs and the City of Reading, which will cause roads to be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic or to have an Officer directing traffic. Road closures will begin between at 7:30 AM and should end by noon.

The following roads in will be closed or have temporary restrictions during the event:

Spruce Street between Park Road South and S 5th Avenue will be closed for the duration of the event.

Park Road South from Wayne Avenue to Parkside Drive North will be closed for the duration of the event.

Parkside Drive South from Museum Road to Old Mill Road will be closed for the duration of the event. Officers will be stationed at Parkside Drive South // Museum Road and Parkside Drive South // Wyomissing Blvd to control crossing traffic.

Reading Blvd east-bound from Cambridge Avenue to Park Road South will be closed for the duration of the event.

Reading Blvd west-bound will be open to traffic during the event.

Parkside Drive North from Park Road South to Evans Ave will be closed from 0800 hours to approximately 0900 hours.

Parkside Drive North from Museum Road to Park Road South will be open during the event.

Roadways not closed to traffic on the half marathon route will be controlled by law enforcement officers.

The main access route to the Reading Hospital during this event will be via South 5th Avenue.

Yesterday was a good one in West Reading 🚔 🚒

Our officers stopped by BrewersBar AndGrill 20th anniversary celebration, which also helped raise support for the West Reading Fire Department for their 125th anniversary.

It was great seeing so many people out, catching up with neighbors, and supporting two longtime parts of the West Reading community.

Thanks to Brewer’s, WRFD, the organizers, and everyone who came out and made the day such a success!

🚨 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚨

With students back in the classroom, the West Reading Police Department is reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert and use extra caution throughout the Borough.

Please remember to:
• Obey posted school-zone speed limits, especially when lights are flashing
• Watch for students, crossing guards and increased pedestrian traffic
• Stop for school buses when required
• Give yourself a little extra time during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal

WRPD will also be conducting back-to-school traffic enforcement throughout the Borough.

A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make a big difference. Help us keep West Reading’s students, families and school staff safe this school year. 🚓📚
