Yesterday , we didn’t just say goodbye to Firefighter Cooper Whiteside.
Today, we stood shoulder to shoulder—brothers and sisters in the fire service, law enforcement officers, friends, and family—to celebrate a life that meant so much to so many.
The final radio call served as painful reminders that a seat in our station will forever remain empty. But it also reminded us of something greater—that a firefighter’s legacy is not measured by the years they were given, but by the lives they touched while answering the call.
As Cooper’s last radio call echoed through the air, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. Hearing the words, “Your duties here are complete… we’ll take it from here,” was a moment none of us will ever forget. It marked the end of his watch—but not the end of his impact.
Today, we laughed through tears as stories were shared. We remembered his smile, his dedication, his willingness to serve, and the brotherhood he helped strengthen every time he walked through the station doors. We honored not only the firefighter he was, but the son, family member, friend, and man whose kindness left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
To Cooper’s family—thank you for sharing him with us. He wasn’t just a member of our department. He was our brother, and we will carry his memory with us on every call, every training, every time the tones drop, and every time we answer the oath we all took.
Although today’s ceremony marked the end of Cooper’s earthly watch, his name will forever be spoken around the firehouse, his stories will continue to be told, and his example will continue to inspire those who wear the badge after him.
Brother, the radio may have gone silent, but your voice will forever echo in our hearts.
Rest easy, Cooper. We’ve got it from here.
