Back-to-school season means busier mornings on our roads. School buses are making frequent stops, more students are walking and biking, and traffic may move a little slower.

Give yourself a few extra minutes and slow down around schools, bus stops, and neighborhoods. A little extra time makes a safer morning for everyone.

Planning ahead and keeping our community informed are important to Benton County Fire District 4.

Residents can review the district’s long-range planning, capital facilities and other strategic documents online. These documents help guide decisions about emergency services, facilities, equipment and the district’s future needs.

Board of Fire Commissioners meetings are also always open to the public, and we encourage residents to stay informed and engaged.

🚩 𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗟𝗔𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭𝟭 𝗔𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛 𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭𝟭 𝗣𝗠

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Lower Columbia Basin, including our area. Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to strong winds and very low humidity.

💨 West winds: 10–20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph
💧 Relative humidity: As low as 11%
⚠️ Strongest winds are expected Saturday

Any fire that develops can catch and spread quickly under these conditions.

🔥 𝗔 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗪𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗡 𝗕𝗔𝗡 𝗜𝗦 𝗔𝗟𝗦𝗢 𝗜𝗡 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧. Please do not conduct outdoor burning.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝘆:
🚜 Postponing mowing or other activities that could create sparks, especially during hot and windy conditions.
🚗 Never parking or driving on dry grass.
🚛 Making sure trailer chains are secured and aren't dragging on the roadway.
🚬 Properly disposing of smoking materials.
🔥 Following all current burn restrictions.
𝙄𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠. With dry fuels, low humidity and gusty winds, a small fire can quickly become a fast-moving wildfire.

Stay alert. If you see smoke or fire, 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟵𝟭𝟭 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to learn about the levy lid lift, ask questions and participate in the Aug. 4 election.

We're grateful that voters approved the measure. Your support will help us continue providing the fire and emergency medical services our growing community depends on while preparing for the future.

Not everyone is on social media, so reader boards are a great way to help keep our entire community informed. Thank you for helping prevent wildfires and keep our community safe!

Random request for anyone in the state of Washington: if you know a business with a reader board, could you please ask them to advertise the burn ban? Not everyone is on social media (WEIRD, right???) and we would rather educate the community than A) respond to a controlled burn that got out of control or B ) respond to a report of someone doing a controlled burn and take pictures and report them to Benton Clean Air Agency and then we just seem like the bad guys.

Let’s be neighborly and make sure the word gets out. A simple …
