Three Sisters Gardens hosted a film screening of "Seeds for Liberation" on Friday, March 13. Panelists Alfred Melbourne, Fatima Garcia, and Sarah Al Zanoon joined director Matthew Solomon and moderator Dr. O in a post-film multicultural discussion panel linking the Free Palestine movement with Black, Chicano, and other collective liberation struggles. During the panel, Solomon discussed the choices he made to thoughtfully curate the documentary, as well as his motivation - which he described as rooted in love. This Friday we welcome Three Sisters Gardens' film screening of "Seeds for Liberation", followed by a multicultural perspective discussion panel. Featuring some of the biggest names in the movement, Seeds for Liberation centers Palestinian voices and experiences, linking the Free Palestine movement with Black, Chicano, and other collective liberation struggles—spanning Gaza to Stop Cop City—and culminating in a shared vision of what true liberation means.

"It is about how we feel in our bodies and in our minds. Our new production of "Unfolding" explores meeting that feeling with compassion instead of criticism. That's the heart of Borne, and our annual eating disorder awareness show [focuses on] body positivity, mental health, and the freedom to overcome."

🌏 Thursday evening's film screening of "The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice" created an encouraging space for our West Sacramento community to learn about the Greenland Ice Sheet and deepen their compassion for our planet. Thank you to Mayor Martha Guerrero, director Kathy Kasic, and poet Mason Granger for their care and insight in kicking off the event. We would also like to recognize our moderator and panelists Jazmin Garcia, Kristen Wraithwall and Enrique Baeza, event coordinator Teresa Mixon and our behind-the-scenes team of Johánna, Joe, Sam and Ciara. It truly is a group effort to raise environmental awareness and spread hope for our generation and the next.

Kathy Kasic is a professor at Sacramento State and is a biologist-turned-documentary-filmmaker who directed "The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice". This award-winning film will be screened tomorrow at the Black Box Theater at 5:30 pm. Kasic and her partner Jonathan Porteus camped on the Greenland Ice Sheet for a couple of weeks to film. "To be immersed on the ice was otherworldly and gave me a respect for the power of all that ice," says Kasic, who would like audiences to witness the beauty of the Greenland Ice Sheet, to understand climate science more deeply, and to be moved to envision and enact a sustainable society. "We can either be remembered as the generation who continued to ignore climate science or we can be remembered as the bold stewards who forged the path to live sustainably with the planet."
