Haunted happenings in West Seneca!
STATEMENT REGARDING UPCOMING WEST SENECA ELECTION
As a 501c6 nonprofit business organization, the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce is allowed to advocate on behalf of our members and the business community on a multitude of issues. Governed by an 11-member volunteer board of directors — made up of both Republicans and Democrats — we try our best to remain neutral in political matters, elections in particular.
Unfortunately, one candidate for supervisor — Christopher Rusin — has decided to make us part of the election by announcing in a Facebook post that he would eliminate funding from the town to the Chamber if elected. The Chamber receives $20,000 annually from the town for economic development work. In addition to the many services we provide in return, we also pay the town rent to lease our current office space in the West Seneca Community Center & Library, where we have become the town’s unofficial information center.
Because his statement would have a negative impact on the services we provide to the community, we feel it is important to note that Mr. Rusin has never once visited, called or emailed the Chamber office to discuss our economic development efforts and the many services we provide on a daily basis to businesses, organizations, residents and visitors to our town.
The Chamber office is open five days a week and we frequently respond to emails and phone calls evenings and weekends. In other words, we are very much accessible, and we would like to invite Mr. Rusin and anyone else with an interest in the Chamber to visit our office to learn more about what we do.
Economic development is strong in West Seneca, but don’t take our word for it. Last November, Business First published an article ranking West Seneca #9 among all cities, towns and villages in Western New York in terms of economic development projects.
However, economic development is not easy work. Sometimes projects take longer than we would like, and sometimes the new arrivals may not be what everyone wants, but we can assure you that we are absolutely trying our best and the many successes we are now seeing throughout our town are because we have an outstanding relationship with the town’s current leadership group — elected and appointed officials, both Republicans and Democrats.
As a result, many long vacant buildings are seeing new life. Our industrial park and main business corridors are experiencing new growth and expansion. Several new restaurants are on the way. We have a new arts tourism destination known as The Charles Burchfield Gardenville District. And, new residential communities are being built because people want to live here.
Our office is typically open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, and our phone number is (716) 674-4900. I would encourage all interested parties to get to know us. Our door is always open.

SAVANNAH BANANAS UPDATE: Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate the overwhelming response we had to this post. Tickets to the Chamber will be limited. When we are able, we will do a random drawing of all responses and offer up to five tickets per request until we run out. Sorry for the confusion, but the response was far greater than we anticipated.
Our advice for ticket-seekers is to sign up for the Savannah Bananas lottery if you have not already done so.
Again, we apologize for the confusion and inconvenience, but we will do the best we can to put tickets into the hands of a few Bananas fans.

Please see the update below on Metzger’s Pub from Business First. And in other restaurant news, Rachel’s Mediterranean Grill is on track after overcoming the final hurdle that was delaying construction, and new restaurants have been proposed for the corner of Center & Union and on Slade Avenue. Keep in mind that even the smallest projects can take several years to complete. And, we’re also hearing that there’s already a lot of interest in the Mooney’s location that closed last week. Stay tuned …
Metzger's Pub coming back to West Seneca under new owner
By Tracey Drury
Senior Reporter
Buffalo Business First
A longtime West Seneca pub that has been closed for several years is coming back under new owners.
Metzger’s Pub opened in 1955 at 4135 Seneca St. as an ice cream parlor called Metzger’s Village Oak. It later transitioned into a pub with members of the Metzger family.
Now Lance Wojda is bringing it back, working with his brother Kurt and another partner.
The team, which acquired the property at a county tax auction in October of 2022, began working on the 5,000-square-foot building this summer, putting on a new metal roof. Siding and windows are coming next. Repairs will also address damage from a 2021 fire in the building.
Wojda said they’ll likely get the apartments ready upstairs first to generate income and then work on opening the bar. That could include bringing back live music, which was long a draw at the pub.
They’ve got experience in that area: The brothers also operate Stroh’s Tavern on Lake Shore Road in Angola as well as Jokers Bar on Electric Avenue in Lackawanna, both of which offer live music weekly.
They haven't decided if they will stick with the Metzger’s name or change it.
“We plan on bringing it back to its old glory as well as we can,” Wojda said. “The building needs a lot of work.”

WE know how great our Chamber businesses are, so let’s not keep it a secret!
Small Business Saturday (Nov. 25) is typically a time when the community actively seeks out small businesses to support in WNY. Over the years it has grown into a movement, specifically since so many local businesses were so adversely affected by the pandemic. With more and more shoppers being particularly mindful of where they are spending their money, let’s be sure to promote all of the incredible businesses we have, right here in our community!
We strongly encourage our Chamber members to offer a Small Business Saturday promotion of some sort to help us attract shoppers and diners who will be out and about on that day. Whether it’s a small savings incentive, giveaway or an open house, please forward us the information so that we can collectively promote our businesses through our marketing channels AT NO COST TO YOU! Who doesn’t love some free publicity?
Please take a moment and forward your details to [email protected] by Friday, Oct. 27, so that we can make this Small Business Saturday anything but small for our members!

One of our now favorite annual events is the Christmas Tree Auction, which raises funds for local nonprofit organizations. To date, 8 of our 10 trees have been “adopted” for our 2023 auction in December, but we still have 2 trees waiting to be adopted by a local business, organization or individual. We supply the tree; all you have to do is come up with a creative theme and decorate it! Then all the trees, displayed in the WS Community Center & Library, are auctioned off to the highest bidders.
If you would like to adopt one of our remaining two trees, please contact the Chamber at 674-4900. Thank you!
