It's that time of year again! The West Seneca Highway Department is excited to be launching our 4th Annual Holiday Toy Drive to benefit WNY Foster Closet and local children in foster care.

WNY Foster Closet is a nonprofit organization serving Erie County. They work year-round to provide clothing, car seats, toys, furniture, and other essentials free of charge to foster families. At holiday time, needs become great.

That's where we come in! We are proud to partner with WNY Foster Closet and bring our West Seneca community together to help make Christmas AMAZING for these kids! To do so, we are now accepting new, unwrapped toys and gift cards for children from birth to age 21.

You can bring your donation right to us at The Highway Department - Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:00 pm or have items shipped directly to us.

The West Seneca Highway Department (Attn: Brian Adams)
39 South Ave
West Seneca, NY 14224

Thank you all for your continued support towards this wonderful cause. We look forward to seeing you and making Christmas magical for some very deserving children!

Over the summer the town participated in a pilot food waste compost program with Farmer Pirates. The program was very successful - a TON of waste was diverted from the landfill. We will think about how we can expand it next year. The full report will be on the agenda at the next town board meeting. Here is the first page.

06/11/2023

When we initially placed an order for personalized benches to enhance the Soccer Park, we thought that was the close of the project. But as people walked around the park and saw the new installments, a second round of benches was inspired.

The first call we received was from the beloved best friends of Mrs. Katie Aldrich who had recently passed away. They wanted to do something special for their dear friend and explained how touched they were by Katie’s life. Then, Katie’s husband, who walks the Soccer Park daily, called to inquire about a bench for his wife without knowledge of Katie’s friends’ request. Mr. & Mrs. Aldrich used to walk the park together and Mr. Mike Aldrich even had a photo of her standing between two trees at the soccer park during the fall season with her hands in the shape of a heart. After getting to know some of the friends and family of Katie Aldrich, one thing was very clear- Mrs. Aldrich was extremely loved and had a unique, profound impact on the people around her.

Nine more bench requests later and we had enough orders for a second round of benches! After the benches were installed, her family thought it would be wonderful to have the photo of Mrs. Aldrich adhered to the bench that sits in the same spot where the photo was taken during a previous fall season. Today, Mr. Aldrich visits the bench every day on his walk around the Soccer Park. He often sees people sitting at the bench and this sparks conversations about the memory of his wife. The impact and memory of Ms. Aldrich and the love she showed other people lives on in this way at the Soccer Park through the help of her husband and family.

Pictured here are Mrs. Aldrich’ daughter, Lisa Blake and Mrs. Aldrich’ husband, Mike Aldrich. She was also survived by her son, Mike Aldrich Jr. (Lisa’s twin) who now also walks the Soccer Park daily with his dog.

“More than a bench, a seat in history.” The installment of the second round of benches has now inspired a THIRD round of benches! However, these will be placed along the new walking path at Firemen’s Park to accompany the initial four. Whether you are a business, a service organization or an individual looking to sponsor a bench for a loved one or family, we welcome you to consider this opportunity which will be available until the end of this month. Not only do they enhance our parks, but they add an element of character and connect us as a community as well. If you are interested in ordering a personalized bench, please contact 716-558-3202 for more information.

DOT has notified us of their intent to start repairs next week Wednesday (11/1) on the Birchwood Avenue bridge over the 400. The work will start by installing a similar support system as used previously, including temporary signals on the bridge making it a single travel lane. The contractor intends to complete the work this year, minimizing its impact to vehicle traffic.

There will be a PUBLIC HEARING regarding the Town Budget on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 6:00pm in the Town Court Room, located at 1250 Union Road.

10/10/2023

Today, we dedicated a bench to Bob & Ele Raux, honoring their legacy and 50 years of service to Reserve Volunteer Fire Co and our community. Their son and daughter, Linda and Richard sponsored this park bench to go along the new walking path at Fireman’s Park on East & West Road near the Reserve Hose Fire Hall.

Supervisor Dickson welcomed the group and Linda and Richard shared some loving words about their parents. Representatives from Reserve Hose Fire Co. were also there to present Bob Raux’ flag in memoriam of his service. Between the community parades, emergency calls to people in distress, and constantly being “on call” and ready to help, Bob demonstrated what it means to be a “man of service”. Along the same lines, Ele also showed her dedication to service, her family, and her community as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. One of the family members even brought one of Ele’s famous baked goods using the recipe Ele left her. At Bob’s funeral, they actually turned around the procession so that it purposely passed by Reserve Hose, because of how much it meant to the family.

Coincidently, the timing of the dedication of this bench is fitting because it is “Fire Prevention Week” in the Town of West Seneca and Bob & Ele dedicated a great deal of their time to protecting West Seneca families and serving in times of trouble.

If you are interested in sponsoring a personalized park bench, please contact the Supervisor’s Office at 716-558-3202.
