Members were out in force last night!

Many are currently enrolled in one of the several BEFO courses learning the skills to be firefighters.

Crews worked on donning and doffing SCBA equipment before practicing elongated handline advancement and flowing while moving exercises.

Crews were driven to move with purpose under pressure to simulate urgency on a fire ground.

Another busy weekend in the books.

Crews trained late into the evening this past Friday working on hose line deployments and discussing techniques and overcoming obstacles. Before detailing the station for the continued BEFO course being held.

During the course members ensured quick responses on several calls to not interfere with ongoing courses.

Seneca Hose, Wi******er Squad 3, and Union Truck 2 were alerted to a possible fire in a crawl space in a residence on Stephenson Ave off of Seneca Street.

Engine 2 and Chief 9 arrived on scene within 4 minutes of initial dispatch and reported heavy smoke showing from the first floor and attic. Engine 2 found fire in a rear step down and quickly extinguished the fire. Crews opened up and checked for any fire extension.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners for a quick response limiting damage to the structure.

Members worked together throughout the maze last night for drill.

With having 8 new members progressing into and through the entry level firefighter courses working on building confidence in confined spaces with zero visibility is key to having trust and an understanding of how our equipment works.

While it may appear they are crowded ontop of each other crews were sent into the maze in opposite directions to create controversial obstacles and build communication and crew accountability.

Today starts the first day of BEFO for five probationary members of our duty shift program.

Huge shout out to the town’s sanitation crew on truck #103 today. While facing the cold and wind they witnessed a local resident fall on the ice and sustain a head injury, quickly jumping into action the crew assisted the resident up and out of the cold and began providing first aid before fire and EMS arrived. Thank you to Brian Adams West Seneca Superintendent of Highways for employing such an amazing team and thank you to the crew of truck 103.

Yesterday was a busy day for Seneca Hose. We started with 7 calls for service before noon and ended with Drill last night focused on Firefighter Survival evolutions. These scenarios are designed to test firefighters both physically and mentally, so that if the worst were to happen, they can work through the obstacle.

Crews performed wall breaches, practiced calling Maydays and maneuvering out of a simulated collapse in the “Flyswatter” prop, and practiced following a Hoseline out of a structure through different obstacles. The night ended with a FAST Scenario of a downed firefighter needing to be extricated from a basement apartment.

2024 has come to an end, Seneca Hose was alerted to 1,109 alarms. This is over a 6% increase in incidents from 2023.

As we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome in 2025 we would like to reflect on how great 2024 was for Seneca Hose,

We have increased our membership this past year far beyond what we could have expected, this has improved the amount of training we have completed this year.

Our membership thanks our board of fire commissioners for supporting our constant strive for improvement to both equipment and services we provide to the community.

Our membership has increased our community out reach programs to become more engaged within the community.

We have high hopes of keeping this momentum going into 2025.

Thank you to all of our dedicated members, our supporting partners within the community, and everyone who has supported us over the years.

Members spent this beautiful, springlike, Saturday morning training on Truck Company operations with our mutual aid partners from Newton Abbott. Crews worked on forcible entry and vertical ventilation.

Crews spent this off drill night training with members of Reserve Volunteer Fire Co and Vigilant Fire Company, WS .

Crews reviewed skills including handline advancement, truck company operations. These evolutions also allowed some of our senior members to act in the role of an officer maintaining accountability, overseeing operations of their company and ensuring radio communications of pertinent information was relayed.

Crews completed multiple company based operations followed by 2 joint combined company scenarios.

Crews spent some time this morning reviewing basic truck company work. Reviewing search techniques, and portable ladders.

This is the second day of a multi day acquired structure series.
