On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, our Water Pollution Control division will be adjusting the manholes on West Street from Bushy Hill Road to Hopmeadow Street. Work will be carried out between 7AM and 3:30PM. Traffic will remain open, but there will be intermittent lane closures throughout the day. We recommend seeking alternate routes, if possible, while this work is being performed. Thank you.

The Simsbury Junior Police Academy cadets had the opportunity to visit Simsbury Department of Public Works and learn firsthand how public safety extends far beyond traditional law enforcement. From maintaining roads to managing storm response, the visit highlighted how both departments work side by side to serve our residents. Public safety is truly a team effort, and today's experience gave the cadets a greater appreciation for the partnerships that help make Simsbury a great place to live.

We had the great pleasure of hosting the Simsbury Public Library's Story Town with Miss Stephanie at the Public Works garage today. There were songs and stories and so many trucks! Our Public Works Director Tom Roy even read one of the books! Over 100 adults and children joined us for nearly an hour of fun at our facility. We couldn’t be prouder!

The bulk of our paving work on Stratton Brook Road has been completed. To wrap up the project, we have replaced nearly 3 miles of curbing and will be back-filling and seeding this week.

We are in the home stretch of this large paving project and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with the traffic disruptions during the last few weeks.

The section of Stratton Brook Road that runs from Bushy Hill Road to Farms Village Road will be closed from 7AM to 5PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026; Thursday, July 16, 2026; and Friday, July 17, 2026. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes for the safety of residents and our crews working to repave this stretch of roadway. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be able to access the area, as needed. Thank you for your patience.

While Simsbury was fortunate to be spared from the severe thunderstorms that impacted parts of Connecticut last week, many of our neighboring communities were not as lucky. Many towns throughout the state experienced significant storm damage, including downed trees and widespread power outages.

Simsbury’s Department of Public Works was able to lend a hand by sending a tree crew—including our large wood chipper—to Harwinton to assist with their cleanup and recovery efforts. Mutual aid is one of the greatest strengths of municipal government, and we're grateful for the opportunity to help a neighboring community in their time of need. Our Public Works crew represented Simsbury with professionalism and skill, demonstrating our commitment to public service.

Due to the anticipated high temperatures, the Town of Simsbury will be opening the Simsbury Public Library Friends of the Library Program Room as a cooling center on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bottled water will be available for those utilizing the cooling center.

Also due to the anticipated high temperatures, the Simsbury Farms Pool will be free to Simsbury residents who are 65 or older on Friday, July 3rd, between the hours of 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM; Saturday, July 4th, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM; and Sunday, July 5th, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The pool hours may vary if there is inclement weather. Please check the Simsbury Parks & Recreation Department website for any inclement weather closures.

We are pleased to announce that the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center expansion is complete! Staff have begun moving in and preparing for this weekend’s first performance of the Hartford Symphony's Talcott Mountain Music Festival, Celebrate America! We are looking forward to the upcoming season and having this new facility to host top talent and run the program for years to come.

The Simsbury Bulky Waste and Recycling Center on Wolcott Road will be closed on Saturday, July 4th, in observance of the holiday.

The Simsbury Landfill and Recycling Center facility allows residents to dispose of brush, logs, appliances, mattresses, furniture, used motor oil, paint, grass clipping, leaves, electronics, and residential recycling. Household trash is not accepted at the landfill.
