The new bestsellers this week include "A Parade of Horribles," "Ironwood," and "The Final Target." The new movies this week include "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Part 1," "The Apothecary Diaries: Season 1 Part 2 [Blu-ray]," and "The Apothecary Diaries: Season 1 Part 1 [Blu-ray]."

The chicks are hatching!!

It typically takes 12 to 24 hours for a chick to fully hatch once it has pipped (made the first hole in the shell). The process is incredibly exhausting, so the chick will often rest for long periods between cracking the shell and pushing its way out.

The step-by-step timeline includes:
The Pip: The chick punctures a hole in the shell to take its first breath of air.

The Rest: The chick rests, absorbs the remaining yolk sac, and finishes detaching from the inner membrane.

The Zip: The chick spins around inside the shell, breaking it in a circle until it can push the top off like a lid. This zipping process should only take about an hour once it begins.

The Countdown is on! We are 1 day away from our chicks due date!!! If you can't come into the library to see them hatch, remember we have a live Youtube feed available at WSPL Events. https://www.youtube.com/live/UjftzIFDNbU?si=PAfl9kWW_FGv301X

Once they hatch, we will only have them in the library until Friday at 1pm when they will be picked up by our Friends at the UMASS Embryology Department.
