Delegate Kathy Tran

Delegate Kathy Tran Kathy Tran is a Democrat serving Virginia’s 18th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. During her 12 years at the U.S.

Kathy's family fled Vietnam as refugees before she was seven months old. Although many other countries offered them asylum, they waited 13 months for the United States to process our application. For Kathy's parents, America represented hope, opportunity, and freedom. Now, she's running for the Virginia House of Delegates because she couldn’t just stand by while Donald Trump and Virginia Republica

ns dismantle the ideals that brought her family here. Kathy has devoted her career to fighting for all Americans to have the skills and credentials they need to succeed. Department of Labor, she worked to shape and implement national workforce development policies and programs that served millions of workers and job seekers annually. She most recently worked at the National Immigration Forum, one of the nation’s leading immigration advocacy organizations, pushing for policies that prepare immigrants in the workforce to reach their full career potential. As a mom of five, officer in her local elementary school PTA, and former member of the Board of Directors of her children’s preschool, she is also deeply committed to investing in our public schools. In the House of Delegates, Kathy will advocate for all Virginians and fight against a national agenda that seeks to divide us.

By vetoing my House Bill 1173 and Stella Pekarsky's Senate Bill 258 today, Governor Spanberger missed an opportunity to make Virginia a leader in explicitly protecting women experiencing perimenopause and menopause from discrimination and ensuring they have workplace accommodations.

Perimenopause and menopause are a reality for millions of women, yet too many still face misunderstanding, stigma, and a lack of workplace support. I’m very disappointed by today’s veto and remain steadfast in my commitment to fight for women navigating perimenopause and menopause. Please see Senator Pekarsky and my joint statement.

I'm very disappointed that Governor Spanberger vetoed my House Bill 1263, which would expand collective bargaining rights to public workers across Virginia.

Collective bargaining would have strengthened workplaces, improved services, and built a stronger workforce for Virginia’s future. With this veto, Virginia has missed a critical opportunity to safeguard the economic security of over 500,000 public workers.

Our teachers, firefighters, home care workers, and public employees deserve a seat of the table, and I remain steadfast in my commitment to fight for workers’ rights, dignity, and voice on the job. Please see my full statement.

It is the privilege and responsibility of elected officials to stand up for our constituents and lift up their priorities. We should never have to face misogyny, sexism, and disrespect for being women who are simply doing our jobs. I join other members of Fairfax County’s General Assembly Delegation in standing with our colleague on the Fairfax County School Board.

Senate Majority Leader Scott A. Surovell and I are calling on Governor Spanberger to sign Senate Bill 378 and House Bill 1263, landmark legislation that would provide over 500,000 public employees throughout Virginia with the right to collectively bargain.

They are the teachers that educate our kids, the home care workers that assist our loved ones, the firefighters that protect our communities, and the workers that coordinate services for the most vulnerable amongst us.

Virginia's ban on public sector collective bargaining has roots in our Jim Crow past. It's time to turn the page and move Virginia forward.
