🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT TOMORROW: Memorial Avenue Closure & Detours 🚧

Heads up West Springfield Travelers, beginning Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 AM, Memorial Avenue will be fully closed at 835 Memorial Avenue for replacement of the rail spur crossing as part of the Memorial Avenue Reconstruction Project.

The closure will remain in place until the work is complete.

➡️ A local detour is available via Union Street Extension, Palmer Avenue, and Circuit Avenue. Please note that pavement conditions on this local route are poor.
🚗 Passenger vehicles: Please use the designated alternate passenger route when possible.
🚛 Commercial vehicles/trucks: Please follow the commercial detour along the state highway layout and Suffield Street in Agawam.
⚠️ Trucks cannot use the passenger-vehicle detour route.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour signage. Thank you for your patience as this work moves forward.

🦟 Protect Your Yard & Health: Easy Mosquito Prevention Tips

Stagnant water in artificial containers like bird baths, old tires, buckets, and kiddie pools can turn into a breeding ground for mosquitoes in under a week. These spots attract mosquitoes—including *Culex pipiens*, the primary carrier of West Nile Virus, which can cause fever, headaches, vomiting, and joint pain.

Take simple steps around your home to stay safe and bite-free:

Yard & Home Maintenance
➡Keep water moving: Ensure bird baths have continuous water flow or fountains.
➡Dump and scrub: Empty and clean bird baths and kiddie pools twice a week to remove organic matter and larvae.
➡Eliminate standing water: Regularly inspect and drain buckets, tires, or any artificial containers that hold water.

Personal Protection
➡Dress defensively: Wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and close-toed shoes.
➡Protect little ones: Use mosquito netting over baby carriers. (Note: Avoid bug repellents containing OLE or PMD on children under 3 years old).
➡Apply repellent: Use an EPA-registered bug repellent before heading outdoors.
