Our staff has been receiving several phone calls and has had several personal conversations with the public about a recent increase in Health Department visits to home bakeries and cottage food facilities due to complaints. The Adams County Health Department has not been the agency conducting these inspections and we have only received one complaint about such facilities. Due to the nature of that complaint, it was sent on to the Ohio Department of Agriculture for enforcement since it fell outside of our enforcement jurisdiction. It is our understanding that the Ohio Department of Agriculture has been receiving complaints about local facilities and the staff member assigned to this area has been conducting follow-up inspections on these facilities.
The Adams County Health Department staff is currently working with one cottage food facility to become licensed that was selling food items not allowed under the cottage food rules. We became aware of the items being sold by this facility due to a Facebook post released by the owner.
If you own or operate a Home Bakery or sell cottage food items and someone visits your facility, be sure to ask for identification. Our staff all have agency issued ID badges that are to be worn when conducting inspections and typically will have on a shirt with the Adams County Health Department logo.

Our nursing staff will be conducting an immunization clinic at Blake's Pharmacy in West Union tomorrow from 10 am to 3 pm. We will be offering Flu, Pneumonia, COVID, Tdap and Shingles immunizations.
