As the weather warms up, the City of West Union would like to remind residents that all golf carts operated within city limits must be registered at City Hall.

To complete your registration, please make sure to bring:
→ Initial Permit: $75 (for new carts or those not previously registered)
→ Renewal: $30 (for previously registered carts)
→ Proof of valid insurance

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors, enjoy a great meal, and give back to the first responders who keep our community safe.

✅ Yard Waste Site Opening

The City of West Union Yard Waste Site will open for the season starting this Monday, April 13! This service is provided exclusively for West Union residents, and there is currently no fee to drop off accepted materials.

📅 Weekday Hours (No sign-in required):
Monday – Thursday: 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Friday: 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM

📅 Saturday Hours (Key required):
Saturday: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Noon)

📍 Saturday Access Process: To access the site on Saturdays, residents must pick up a key at the West Union Community Library (210 N Vine St). The library is open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please be sure to lock the gate behind you and return the key promptly to avoid any penalties.

♻️ Accepted Items: Yard waste and limbs 4 inches in diameter and under.
🚫 Not Accepted: Trash, rocks, flower pots, or whole trees.

🌿 NOW HIRING: 2026 Seasonal Part-Time Workers 🌿
The City of West Union is currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team for the 2026 season. These seasonal part-time positions are essential to keeping our community's cemetery, parks, and public spaces beautiful and well-maintained.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
✔️ Mowing and w**d trimming.
✔️ Cemetery upkeep and general street maintenance.
✔️ Assisting the Airport, Park and Rec, Water, and Sewer departments as needed.

Position Details:
📆 Schedule: Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday hours.
📆 Duration: Approximately April 1st through October 1st (weather permitting).
Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and capable of operating the required equipment.
Compensation: Pay is based on experience and skills.

City Hall will be closed this morning to allow our teams to prioritize safety and operations following the recent snowfall. We anticipate reopening for regular business this afternoon.

City Hall will resume normal business hours tomorrow.

As our crews continue to clear the streets, we encourage all residents to take extra care while traveling. Please stay warm and stay safe if you must be outdoors.

Please take a moment to read the important reminder below from the West Union, Iowa Police Department regarding snow and ice removal.

Keeping our sidewalks clear is vital for the safety of students walking to school, mail carriers, and neighbors enjoying a walk. As noted below, please remember that snow and ice must be cleared within 24 hours of a storm to ensure safe passage for everyone.

City of West Union – Snow and Ice Removal Notice

The City of West Union reminds all property owners of their responsibility under City Ordinance 136.06 – Removal of Snow, Ice, and Accumulations.

Owners of property abutting public sidewalks are required to promptly remove snow, ice, and other accumulations from those sidewalks. If snow, ice, or accumulations are not removed within 24 hours, the City of West Union may cause the removal to be completed and assess the cost to the property owner, with collection made in the same manner as property taxes.

This ordinance is enforced to protect public safety and ensure safe pedestrian travel throughout the community.

The City of West Union appreciates the cooperation of all property owners in keeping sidewalks clear during winter weather events.
