OVCTC Ag Business class completed a little project for OSU extension. Students had to take 5 four leaf clover flower beds and creatively come up with “stems” so that the 4H iconic symbol was better represented. Students learned to use a metal brake and had to come up with angles that worked for the correct appearance. Thanks to Mark Wickerham and West Union Electric for the help and support on our pieces to cap the bottom and make them look nice. Can’t wait to see what gets planted in them!

📣 SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH! 📣

At the Ohio Valley CTC, we’re joining our district in reminding students that EVERY DAY MATTERS!

Throughout September, our programs are going head-to-head in the OVCTC September Attendance Challenge! Each week, programs will earn points based on their attendance percentage, and our staff is joining the competition too!

Our goal goes right along with the district’s STRIVE FOR 5 attendance initiative: strive for five or fewer absences because every day in school matters.

At the end of September, the program with the most points will be crowned our September Attendance Champion and earn an OPEN LUNCH!

⭐ SHOW UP.
⭐ EARN POINTS.
⭐ WIN THE MONTH.
⭐ EARN AN OPEN LUNCH!

🏫 STRIVE FOR 5. EVERY DAY COUNTS!

Every day in school matters! Regular attendance helps students stay connected, keep up with instruction, and make the most of every opportunity to learn.

We also know that there are times when mental health or behavioral health needs can become a barrier to regular attendance. Connecting students with the right support—without requiring them to miss additional school—is one way we can work together to reduce chronic absenteeism.

Through ACOVSD’s partnership with R.E.A.C.H. for Tomorrow, students can access services right at school, during the school day.

Services include:
• Mental health therapy
• Case management
• Substance abuse treatment and support, including v**e groups

Providing services at school means less time out of class, fewer disruptions to the school day, and greater access to support when students need it.

Our goal is simple: remove barriers, reduce absences, and help students stay present, engaged, and ready to learn.

⭐ Strive for 5. Every day counts!

From learning the skill to completing a real job!

Welding senior Leland is already putting his skills to work!

Last year, Leland learned the powder-coating and sandblasting process in our welding program. On Day 2 of his senior year, he learned how to operate our new plasma table. By Day 3, he was able to put those skills together to complete a trophy job from start to finish, designing and cutting the pieces on the plasma table, powder coating them, and preparing them for the finished product.

Three days into the school year, and our students are already producing real work for real customers. That’s what career-tech education is all about: building skills, adding new ones, and putting them to work!

Great job, Leland! 👏🔥

FROM AN IDEA TO REALITY!

Our Welding, Advanced Machining, and Ag Mechanics students and instructors came together for hands-on training with our new BOSS Tables CNC plasma table!

A huge thank you to BOSS Tables for sending an outstanding trainer to OVCTC to share his knowledge and expertise. Students learned the entire process—from taking an image or idea, creating it in the software, setting up the equipment, and ultimately turning that idea into a finished product.

Now it’s time to put those skills to work! Whether it’s custom signs, parts, cutouts, or projects for our community, our students have the technology and skills to take an idea and turn it into reality!

This is what career-tech education is all about—hands-on learning, industry-level equipment, and skills that translate directly to the workforce.

Ag Mechanics is already putting their skills to work!

Our Ag Mechanics students are tuning up equipment, learning proper maintenance, and focusing on the safety practices needed to keep our equipment—and our building—running smoothly.

At OVCTC, students don’t just learn how equipment works—they get their hands on it and learn how to inspect it, maintain it, troubleshoot it, and operate it safely. That’s career-tech education in action!
