The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is sharing the following press release regarding last night’s search in the Shawnee Road area.

We would like to thank all assisting agencies, dispatchers, personnel, and members of the community who helped during the incident. The cooperation and coordinated efforts of everyone involved are greatly appreciated.

We are proud to be the FIRST 9-1-1 center in the State of Ohio to go live with NGA’s Next Generation 9-1-1 technology.

So, what does that mean for our community?

NG9-1-1 brings newer, more advanced technology into our Communications Center and gives us a stronger foundation for how the public connects with 9-1-1, now and into the future.

📱 AND HERE'S THE BIG NEWS, TEXT-TO-911 IS AVAILABLE NOW!

If you are in an emergency and cannot safely make a voice call, you can text 9-1-1.

📱 TEXT if you can’t call.
📞 CALL if you can.

Calling 9-1-1 is still the best option when you are able to speak with a dispatcher. Texting is especially important when making a voice call may be unsafe or impossible.

🚨 COMING SOON, REAL-TIME TEXT (RTT)!

Adams County Communications Center is preparing to become the FIRST 9-1-1 center in Ohio to offer Real-Time Text with 9-1-1.

RTT is different from a normal text message. Instead of typing a complete message and pressing send, RTT allows the dispatcher to receive the text as it is being typed. That means communication can happen more like a live conversation when every second matters.

We are excited about what this technology means for Adams County and proud to continue moving our 9-1-1 system forward.

YESTERDAY’S STORM — BEHIND THE HEADSET

Yesterday’s severe weather brought an extraordinary increase in calls to the Adams County Communications Center.

DAY BEFORE THE STORM
• 31 calls to 9-1-1
• 114 administrative calls

STORM DAY
• 141 calls to 9-1-1
• 101 administrative calls before our admin lines went down

That’s a 355% increase in 9-1-1 calls in just one day.

And those numbers don't include the countless radio transmissions and the coordination of Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS responses to trees down, power lines, roadway hazards and other emergencies throughout Adams County.

💛 We are incredibly proud of our telecommunicators and all of our first responders who worked through an extremely challenging event. Thank you to our community for your patience and understanding.

Due to the storms in the area, our administrative/non-emergency phone lines are currently down.

🚨 If you need Police, Fire, or EMS assistance, please call 9-1-1.

Our 9-1-1 emergency lines remain operational.

* Until 500 PM EDT.

* At 428 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Seaman, moving southeast at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
West Union, Manchester, Peebles, Seaman, Tollesboro, Rome, Blue
Creek, Decatur, Rarden, Cherry Fork, Sinking Spring, Otway,
Concord, Trinity, Dunkinsville, Bradysville, May Hill, Locust
Grove, Ribolt, and Charters.
TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.
