We share our deepest condolences to the family of Officer William “Bill” Jeffrey and the entire Houston Police Department.

#gonebutnevereverforgotten

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of Senior Police Officer William "Bill" Jeffrey. He was fatally shot this morning while serving a felony warrant in Harris County. Officer Jeffrey, 54, joined HPD in December of 1990 and was assigned to the Major Offenders Division for almost 13 years. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time.

Sgt. Michael Vance, 49, was also shot while serving the felony warrant. He remains in stable condition at a Houston hospital. Sgt. Vance joined HPD in June of 1998 and has been in the Major Offenders Division for the past 2 years. Due to the undercover nature of Sgt. Vance's assignment, HPD will not be releasing his department photo.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that is celebrated in Texas on the first Tuesday in October. Locally, we celebrate our police and community partnerships with a number of individual gatherings. These gatherings are our opportunity to strengthen relationships by getting to know your neighbors and West U emergency personnel. It is also an opportunity to discuss neighborhood issues and pass on information about ant-crime programs or projects that can help build a healthy community. NNO and the continuing projects we work on together as a community help keep West U a great place to live, work, and play. Most importantly, as a group theses gatherings tell criminals and trouble makers that West U is organized and fighting back to maintain a high quality of life in our community.
