Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Coffee with a Cop this morning! We enjoyed catching up with residents, answering questions, and simply spending some time together over a cup of coffee. Events like Coffee with a Cop give us a chance to connect with the people we serve outside of a call for service.

🚸 School Zone Safety

West University Place Police Department officers continue to be out in the school zone enforcing traffic laws and helping keep traffic moving.

Please make sure you’re driving safely and adhering to all posted traffic signs during school zone hours.

One sign to be aware of is located on University Blvd. at Auden St. Right turns from University Blvd. onto Auden St. are not permitted from 7:00–8:00 a.m. and 2:30–3:30 p.m. during school zone hours.

We are proud to recognize Lt. Cirlos, who recently received a Spirit Coin for his dedication and innovative work with the West University Place Police Department.

Lt. Cirlos has developed several dashboards to help improve efficiency, streamline processes, and provide valuable resources to our department. By creating these tools in-house, he has also helped save the City money while developing solutions specifically designed to meet the department’s needs.

We appreciate Lt. Cirlos’ initiative, dedication, and commitment to continually finding ways to improve our department and better serve West University Place. Thank you, Lt. Cirlos, for your outstanding work!

Please join us in welcoming the newest cadets to the West University Place Police Department!

Last week, three cadets sponsored by WUPD began their journey at the Pearland Police Academy. Over the coming months, they’ll take on the rigorous training required to become certified police officers, learning everything from criminal law and patrol procedures to traffic enforcement, investigations, and more.

This is the beginning of an exciting journey, and WUPD is proud to support these future officers as they work toward their goal of serving West U.

EVADING SUSPECT IN CUSTODY!

On August 7, 2026 at 6:08 P.M. officers with the West University Place Police Department were dispatched to a Virtual Gate hit regarding a suspect vehicle identified in an active investigation. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled and a short vehicle pursuit ensued through West U and the surrounding area, coming to an end in the 3100 block of Lafayette St. where the driver was taken into custody without incident.

As summer comes to an end and students head back to the classroom, it's time for all of us to help make the new school year a safe one.

🚸 Remember to:

• Slowdown in school zones and obey posted speed limits.

• Stay alert and eliminate distractions while driving.

• Watch for children walking, riding bicycles, and crossing the street.

• Yield to pedestrians and follow the directions of crossing guards.

• Stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm, as required by Texas law.

👟 Students can help stay safe by:

• Using designated crosswalks.

• Looking left, right, and left again before crossing.

• Keeping phones and earbuds put away while walking near traffic.

• Wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle.

• Staying aware of their surroundings.

Our officers will be monitoring school zones throughout the school year to help keep everyone safe.

A few extra seconds of patience and attention can make all the difference. Let's work together to ensure every student has a safe journey to and from school this year.
