Whetstone For West Valley West Valley District 3 City Councilman | Facing Community Challenges With Positive Solutions

My name is Will Whetstone, I’ve been a resident of West Valley City for the last 30 years. In January of 2022 I was selected by the City Council to serve as Councilmember of District 3. Prior to my appointment to City Council, I served on the West Valley Board of Adjustments from 2013 to 2021. My wife and I have lived in West Valley City for 30 years and we have raised our four daughters here. I a

m currently serving, and have served for the last 17 years in the Utah Air National Guard. My time in the military has taught me how to be reliable, consistent, and meticulous about planning. In addition to my military service, I have also served on seven nonprofit boards and committees. Serving with these nonprofits has broadened my perspective and introduced me to unique ways to accomplish community development. I’m passionate about our West Valley Community and would like your support as I seek re-election to the council.

It can be a struggle for Utah's youth sports teams to find space for practices and games. One suburb is weighing a proposal that could alleviate the crunch.

Due to the high fire danger and current wildfires burning in the state this summer, Governor Cox has called for the personal use of fireworks to be prohibited statewide. Cities will still be allowed to hold professional fireworks events. West Valley City’s fireworks show is planned for July 4th at Centennial Park. We encourage the public to come together to celebrate this community event. The West Valley City Fire Department will be on hand to closely monitor the event.

It really is Hump Day Buffet! 🐪

Stopped by Centennial Park to meet Cosmo the camel and check out another great Food Truck Night. There were plenty of food options, families enjoying the evening, and even a camel helping everyone get through the middle of the week.

If you haven’t been yet, Food Truck Night happens every Wednesday evening at Centennial Park throughout the summer.

After attending events throughout WestFest, I was grateful to see so many families, neighbors, and friends enjoying our community celebration together.

Thank you to the many employees, volunteers, and public safety personnel who worked long hours behind the scenes to help create a safe and family-friendly environment for everyone.

WestFest reminds me why I love serving West Valley City. Seeing thousands of residents come together to celebrate our community is something special.

Today I had the opportunity to spend time with the West Valley City Fire Department and experience a small part of what their recruits go through during training.

It was challenging, humbling, and exhausting—but more than anything, it gave me an even greater appreciation for the men and women who serve our community every day. Their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to protecting West Valley City is truly impressive.

Thank you to the department for letting me join in and for all you do to keep our city safe. I’ll leave the real firefighting to the professionals… for now.
