A small token of gratitude for the sacrifices of freedom fighters
August 11th 4 pm -8 pm, West Windsor Community Park

Along with the topmost professional singers of New Jersey who have graciously volunteered to present a free concert, to celebrate the hard-won independence of India and Pakistan from colonial slavery, the most gorgeous ladies many of whom are professional models have volunteered to honor the women freedom fighters of India’s independence struggle by presenting the attire of the home state of such women freedom fighters like Sarojini Naidu, Captain Laxmi Sehgal, Durga Bhabhi, Aruna Asaf Ali and many women who sacrificed their careers, family, comfort and even life to fight for freedom from colonial slavery.

It is truly a puzzle as to how the brave and freedom loving people of the Indian sub-continent were subjugated by a handful of folks from a small island seven seas away. But it took a lot of blood, sweat, indignities and tortures to finally kick the tyrants out of that land. Our freedom fighters made those sacrifices happily and with honor. We will never be able to pay their debt but we can present a small token of gratitude to them by coming together for this celebration.

On the evening of Sunday, August 11th, please come to the West Windsor Community Park pavilion to enjoy captivating singing accompanied by a full live orchestra. Don’t worry about dinner because there will be delicious Indian food to buy. Please bring your lawn chairs, beach blankets, bring your family and bring your friends to enjoy an unforgettable evening of entertainment!

These roots run deep

The roots of Indian culture and music indeed run deep. Even half-way across the planet, seven seas afar, these roots are nourished and spread by dedicated parents, gifted teachers and hardworking students. Every single day we so proudly see these kids grow up beautifully and polish their musical talents with passion and humility. Watching all this in our local community fills us with peace and contentment.

Food for Body. Food for Soul.

WW Community Farmers Market and Roohaniyat are both non-profit institutions. One brings local farmers together in one platform to provide the community with fresh produce, the other brings local artists together in one platform to provide the community with Indian music and culture. Why bother? In this age when all the Bollywood songs are on Youtube or Gaana and delivered instantly, and when all the food and produce you can think of is available from cold storage and warehouses of big stores delivered within hours, why bother to get farmers to bring their produce to the customer directly or performers to sing the song live for audience?

You probably already guessed the answer – Human touch. For example, doing the video chat with your parents in India is not the same thing as meeting them in person. A farmer producing food thousands of miles away vs a farmer meeting in-person the customer who is going to be tasting his produce that evening are not the same thing. A digital music or video file transferred from some server vs a melodious artist performing live is not the same thing. The farmer and the consumer, the performer and the audience occupying same space and time is a unique bond, a bond that brings us in touch with our existence, with our soul.

No entry fee, for the market or for enjoying the music. Just bring your lawn chairs and reusable bags. Love you all. See to tomorrow.
