Girls Scoot Troop 70053 made my week by dropping off food and supplies for Operation Bark Drop. These future leaders of tomorrow collected a cart full of supplies for our shelter friends and made the trek to wwpd to drop them off. They stayed long enough for a q&a with Officer Zicha and K-9 Hodge.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!
Side note: time is running out to drop off donations. We are no where near last years totals and we need to have all donations in this weekend!!!!

The Festival of Lights has begun for our Jewish friends and families. Chief Garofalo wishes a very happy & safe Hanukkah as our holiday season has officially started. “Hanukkah sameach!”--Det. Lt. Lee
Chief Garofalo wanted to extend this thoughts towards all those who have suffered greatly throughout the ordeal of Covid-19. The Chief is greatly humbled when our youngest generation volunteers to help those in a time of need. Everyone in some way has been affected by Covid-19 and many have suffered tremendous loss.
The WW-P Education Foundation Youth Committee has stepped up on behalf of our longstanding friends at HomeFront for a Holiday Food Drive. As per HomeFront, "On any given night, HomeFront provides shelter to over 450 individuals, the vast majority of those children........We Help Families Break the Cycle of Poverty". Any and all donations to HomeFront are invaluable to so many in our region. We also wanted to thank our dear friends at the WW Senior Center for being a central drop-off location until December 15, 2020 for the Holiday Drive.
For more information check out www.HomeFront.org or email the youthcommitteewwpeducationfoundation.org. Please check out the attached flyer.--Det. Lt. Lee

Communities of Light™ (COL) candles line the streets of central New Jersey – a powerful symbol of hope for men, women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in our community. Communities of Light raises awareness of the services available to help those victims in Mercer County. The candles come from luminary kits which help spread our important message that Peace Begins at Home.

Chief Garofalo & our staff couldn't be any prouder of our students in the WW-P Regional School District. Recently, we were humbled and surprised when members of WWPHS South's National Honor Society stopped by to say "Thank You to Our Essential Workers". We greatly appreciate Maanya, Varsha, & Trisha taking time out of their busy scholastic schedules to stop by the WWPD with delicious pretzels. We wanted to not only express our gratitude but also want to acknowledge what these young adults have been enduring with Covid-19. This generation has had to deal with tremendous sacrifice over the past 9 months and we have great respect for them as they push through this pandemic. We wish the graduating Class of 2021 the very best. We have said from the beginning, we will get through this together.--Det. Lt. Lee

We always say we are here 24/7/365 for you but we can't do it alone. Thank you Wegmans for being a huge part of the WWPD family. Once again, Wegmans delivered by providing our staff with Thanksgiving dinner while they were away from their families on this day serving our community. Thank you Wegmans and thank you to the members of the WWPD who worked their shifts today.--Det. Lt. Lee
Happy Thanksgiving from the entire WWPD family. We wish for you a safe and enjoyable day with great food, family and friends.. just not more than 10, lol. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are struggling and alone and with all our heroes working today and in our military keeping safe here and all over the world.

Unfortunately, we received this sobering message about the rescued Eastern Screech Owl from Kathryn Marks Williamson, "So I have sad news. I just talked to the Wildlife Center and the owl had to be put down. The vet examined the owl, not only was its wing bones broken but it had other injuries too. They thanked me for bringing the owl in, so it could be comfortable in the end. I wanted to thank you all too."--Det. Lt. Lee
So happy to have @barclaystreefarm on board again this year to help with donations. Stop out each weekend to see a different off duty K9. Say hello, take a picture and get an awesome holiday tree or decoration.
For those able to donate this year, thank you from all the animals who need this so much. For those who are struggling, please reach out for help and please let us know if we can do anything.
Stay safe and warm.

We would like to offer a huge thank you to Kathryn Williamson aka " The Lady Shed Hunter" for her rescue of an Eastern Screech Owl on Thursday. The Owl had been snared in fishing line off of a branch over the D & R Canal. Ptl. Hojnacki responded to the scene and took over from there. Williamson and Ptl. Hojnacki kept the owl swaddled prior to Ptl. Hojnacki returning to WWPD Headquarters. Ptl. Hojnacki continued to nurture and caress the owl until ACO St. John arrived. ACO St. John took further care of the owl prior to transporting to the Mercer County Wildlife Center where the owl is recuperating from this incident. As of this morning, ACO St. John reported that the owl is recovering well!--Det. Lt. Lee

LAW ENFORCEMENT CODE OF ETHICS As a Law Enforcement Officer my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception; the weak against oppression or intimidation; the peaceful against violence or disorder, and to respect the constitutional rights of all men and women to liberty, equality and justice. I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain courageous calm in the face of danger; scorn or ridicule; develop self- restraint; and to be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and regulations of my department. We understand the seriousness that is occurring around us and still want to be involved with our community as it does its part to #flattenthecurve. Sgt. McMahon let Chief Garofalo and I know that there was a special request for a young lady celebrating her birthday. To help promote the Social Distancing, a Birthday Parade was set up as a caravan of cars went by Rey's house. For just a moment in time, we helped those in our community take a break from Covid-19 and brighten up Rey's day as well as all those around her. This was special to Rey, her family, and friends. We were very fortunate in the timing of this to have just enough of a break in between calls for service to be able to help out. Happy birthday from Sgt. McMahon, Traffic Officer McQuade, Ptl. Erkoboni, & Ptl. Heath, and Chief Garofalo.--Lt. Lee
Chief Garofalo spoke on behalf of WWPD's ability to adapt during this health crisis. As seen, we have plans in place with the leadership of West Windsor Township's Mayor/Public Safety Director Hemant Marathe, Health Officer Jill Swanson, & WW DIv. of Fire & Emerency Services (transitioning to incoming Director Tim Lynch) Office of Emergency Management. Chief Garofalo's message is clear: we will adapt, we will take care of our community especially when it's in its time of need. As we go thru this together, we will be highly visible. Chief would like to remind some out there that this is no free pass to those who feel they can drive with reckless abandon or those who think this is a good time to commit a crime. We will act as we always have and bring those to justice who try to prey on others. Please continue to do the great job you have been doing in following CDC protocols and "flattening the curve". We would like to reiterate that we are here 24/7/365. For non-emergent matters continue to use our Online Reporting System or our Telephonic Reporting as our WWPD HEADQUARTERS LOBBY is remaining open to emergent situations ONLY. Our Prescription Drug Drop remains closed. We have taken actions to keep our staff safe. We are following in line with the West Windsor Office of Emergency Management (thanks DIrector Yates for your career of service as we welcome in Tim Lynch) and the WW Dept. of Health. We will continue to update our community as needed. We assure you, we will get through this together.--Lt. Lee

Officers from West Windsor Police Department and the 2019 Youth Academy participated in the 22pushup challenge during their training this week.. Today, members of the West Windsor Police Department conducted the written test to become a police officer. Before the candidates arrived, we paused to support New Light Theatre and our brother and sister veterans in need. To our veterans, you served this country and preserved freedom, now let us serve and protect you. We accept the 22 pushup challenge and are here to let you know 24/7/365 we are here. - Chief Garofalo and all the Officers of the West Windsor Police Department & The 2019 Youth Academy. (We are calling on our brothers & sisters at Princeton Police Department, to take the challenge.
All, Mayor/Public Safety Director Marathe & Chief Garofalo would like to share New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal's message about WWPD's process for the hiring of new police officers. WWPD is searching for the most diverse and open process we could possibly offer to add to the best & brightest officers that serve our community. We thank AG Grewal for taking the time out of his arduous schedule to assist us with spreading our message. We're asking our community to also assist us in advising as many potential candidates of our process. We are an equal opportunity employer and are looking to add to our incredible team of officers. Go to www.policeapp.com to apply by June 24, 2019. We are ONLY taking up to 350 applicants. Lt. Lee #359
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. During the Candlelight Vigil in Washington DC, 371 Names of fallen officers will be added to the memorial. The origins on the Thin Blue Line begin here where all officers honor the fallen by continuing to protect the innocent even though our numbers are thin, the blue line of officers will hold the ground against those who would do harm. Almost 20 years ago, Detective Donald Edwards and I rode in one of the earliest Unity Tours. This year, as has been tradition in West Windsor Police, Sgt Bal, Officers Nagy, Knox, Collins, McQuade & Pollini will make the ride to Washington to honor the fallen. I am so thankful to the amazing relationship between our officers and the community and I thank Sgt. Bal, Officer Nagy, Officer, Knox, Officer Collins, Officer McQuade and Officer Pollini for never forgetting the sacrifices made to get us here. Chief Garofalo
