🚔 Chief’s Thursday Tip 🚔

We are officially in Montana’s “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day when traffic fatalities and serious crashes historically increase across the state.

Chief Corey White and the entire West Yellowstone Police Department staff want to remind everyone that summer in West Yellowstone brings heavy traffic, crowded intersections, wildlife activity, and thousands of visitors who may be unfamiliar with local roads and traffic patterns.

Throughout the summer months, officers will continue proactive traffic enforcement focusing on:
✅ Speeding
✅ Distracted driving
✅ DUI enforcement
✅ Seatbelt violations
✅ Pedestrian safety

Please remember:
🚶 Watch for pedestrians crossing throughout town
📱 Put the phone down while driving
🍺 Never drive impaired
🦬 Be alert for wildlife, especially during early morning and evening hours
🚐 Be patient with increased RV and tourist traffic

A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.

Our goal is simple — keeping residents, visitors, and first responders safe during one of the busiest seasons of the year.

Have a safe summer, West Yellowstone! 🚔☀️🦬

Today, officers from agencies across the area, alongside members of our community, came together to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country during a Memorial Day ceremony at the cemetery.

The ceremony included a traditional 21 gun salute, and a powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

We are grateful to all the agencies and community members who joined us in today’s remembrance. Your presence reflects the unity, respect, and shared commitment to honoring those who will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day weekend, we honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and sacrifice are not forgotten, and we are grateful for the freedoms we have because of them.

As we head into the holiday weekend, we also want to remind our community to celebrate responsibly, make safe choices, and help us keep our community safe.

It’s National Police Week. A time to remember those we’ve lost, support those still serving, and recognize the responsibility that comes with the badge. We’re grateful to be part of this community.

May the 4th Be With You

Earlier this morning, officers responded to reports of unusual aircraft activity over the town… turns out it wasn’t your average air traffic.

A large spherical object (we’re told it’s called a “Death Star”) was spotted hovering at a safe distance, along with several unidentified starfighters and what appears to be an Imperial Star Destroyer. No immediate threat to the public at this time, but we are keeping a close eye on things… and the Empire…

Reminder:
✔️ Always report suspicious activity, on this planet or others
✔️ Drive safe, even if you’re making the Kessel Run
✔️ And as always… don’t try to outrun the Force (or us)

Stay safe out there, and may the 4th be with you

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

We’ve been made aware of a text message circulating that claims to be a “Final Enforcement Notice” from a Montana court regarding unpaid traffic violations.

🚫 THIS IS A SCAM.

Here’s what you should know:
• Courts do NOT send enforcement notices via text message
• Do NOT click any links or scan QR codes
• Do NOT provide personal or payment information
• Do NOT send money

If you receive this message, delete it and report it as spam. If you’re ever unsure about a notice, contact the court directly using official contact information.

🚴‍♂️ May is Bicycle Safety Month 🚔

In West Yellowstone, cyclists are often part of traffic, ride smart and stay predictable.

✔️ Wear a helmet
✔️ Follow all traffic laws
✔️ Ride with the flow of traffic, not against it
✔️ Stay visible with lights and highly visible clothing, especially at dawn, dusk, and in changing weather
✔️ Use sidewalks cautiously, yield to pedestrians and watch for posted restrictions

Drivers: give cyclists space and expect them in the lane.

Let’s keep West Yellowstone safe for everyone, residents and visitors.
