The WDM City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy rate for its upcoming fiscal year (beginning July 1, 2025) during a special Council meeting on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. There will be no action taken by Council at this meeting other than conducting the public hearing.

This action sets the maximum property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. The City tax rate proposed for the 2025-26 fiscal year is $10.80 per thousand dollars of valuation, which represents a $0.05 decrease from the City’s current rate of $10.85 per thousand.

At the March 24 public hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections or arguments in favor of the proposed tax levy rate. The Council also will conduct a public hearing on its entire proposed budget, and ultimately vote on its adoption, on April 21, 2025. The WDM City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy during the regularly scheduled Council meeting on Feb. 20, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The total City tax rate proposed for FY 23/24 will decrease from the current year ($10. 95) to ($10.90). This action sets a cap or maximum tax rate for the fiscal year. The official levy rate and budget will not be set until the WDM City Council meeting on March 20, 2023.

UPDATED: Meeting Info on Comprehensive Plan Update. The West Des Moines Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will hold separate public hearings to consider a request by the City of West Des Moines Development Services staff to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

In addition to a hearing on the overall Comprehensive Plan documents and Land Use Map, the Commission will hold additional discussions and provide direction on the land use classifications to apply to the following locations of the city:
1. Northwest, Northeast and Southeast corners of IA-5 and SE 35th Street
2. Northeast corner of SW Grand Prairie Parkway and Veterans Parkway
3. Area west of S Grand Prairie Parkway, East of S. 115th Street/V Place and North of Grand Avenue
4. Northeast corner of Mills Civic Parkway and S Grand Prairie Parkway
5. Northwest corner of Veterans Parkway and SE 35th Street

The Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting will be 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022. The Planning and Zoning commission meeting will be held via zoom. Connection information for zoom will be found on the meeting agenda posted to the city’s website (www.wdm.iowa.gov) on the evening of Friday, September 9, 2022.

The City Council Meeting will be at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Electronic public input to the City Council meeting can be provided by calling the number and entering the pin number found on the meeting agenda posted to the city’s website (www.wdm.iowa.gov) on the evening of Friday, September 9, 2022.

Individuals wishing to participate in-person may do so at the respective time and day of the meetings from within the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. Any interested person may participate by calling the telephone number and entering the information shown on the respective meeting agenda. City of West Des Moines

The West Des Moines Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to consider a request initiated by the City of West Des Moines Development Services staff to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

The Comprehensive Plan is the city’s long-range plan that will help guide decisions for the creation of our community over the next 20 years. This plan provides a vision for our community that will see the implementation of goals to improve the following areas of our city; community design; housing and neighborhoods; transportation and infrastructure; engagement and wellness; diversity, equity, and inclusivity; sustainability and resiliency; economic prosperity; and land use.

In addition to a hearing on the overall Comprehensive Plan documents and Land Use Map, the Commission will hold additional discussions for specific land use map change requests focused on the following locations of the city:

1. Northwest, Northeast and Southeast corners of IA-5 and SE 35th Street
2. Northeast corner of SW Grand Prairie Parkway and Veterans Parkway
