Counties provide the essential services that ‘power’ our communities.

This morning, the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency was notified of a power outage affecting the City of Fayette, including the Fayette Public Library, which was serving as a polling location for today’s election.

Fayette County EMA responded to the Fayette County Auditor’s Office to determine if any assistance was needed. A request was made for a generator to help power election-related equipment at the polling site. The Fayette Count Emergency Management Coordinator quickly deployed a portable generator to the library and successfully restored power to the essential electronic equipment used for election operations.

Approximately one hour later, Alliant Energy restored commercial power and the generator was no longer needed.

This situation highlighted the importance of teamwork and quick coordination between multiple agencies and community partners. Thank you to the polling station workers, the Fayette County Auditor’s Office, Alliant Energy, the Fayette County Assessor’s Office for assisting with loading the generator, and a member of the Fayette Ambulance Service who assisted with unloading and setup.

An additional thank you goes out to Fayette Lumber Yard for graciously providing their forklift to help reload the generator after the incident was resolved.

Great teamwork by everyone involved to help ensure election operations continued with minimal disruption
