🚨 WDM EMS Citizens Academy – Weeks 1 and 2 Recap! 🚨

We’re only two weeks in, and WOW have we learned a lot and had a blast doing it! 💥

So far, we’ve:
📚 Dived into the history of EMS and the incredible journey of WDM EMS 🚑
💨 Learned how to recognize and respond to airway, breathing, and circulation emergencies
🫁 Got hands-on with airway management, including how to perform intubation — placing a breathing tube in the throat using both direct and video laryngoscopy! 👀👨‍⚕️

The learning is amazing, the instructors are knowledgable, and the experience is unforgettable. We can’t wait for what’s next!

Wednesday Evenings from May 28 - July 9!!!!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have postponed our 2024 Citizens EMS Academy. We plan to reschedule this year's Academy for September - October 2024.

The WDM City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy during a special Council meeting on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The total City tax rate proposed for FY 24/25 will decrease from the current year ($10. 90) to ($10.86). This action sets a maximum tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. At the Council meeting on April 15, 2024, the Council will conduct a public hearing on the entire proposed City budget and vote on its adoption. After four years away we are having a 2024 Citizens EMS Academy!!!!

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the back of a West Des Moines Ambulance, how our paramedics prepare for emergencies, or how we use technology to expertly and compassionately care for our citizens and visitors? Now's your chance to find out! We are gettin the band back together to bring you a 7-week (one night a week) Citizen's EMS Academy. The Citizen's EMS Academy is structured in a classroom setting with plenty of hands-on learning as well as an opportunity to ride with a West Des Moines Ambulance. Hope to see you there!
