This past weekend was an extremely high call volume. Members of the public reaching out to us for help ranged from kind and easy to work with to…the opposite of that. I think there’s a general misconception of what we do so I’d like to take a moment and address this.

💸 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆.
You read that correctly. We make $0 for the work that we do. We actually have to pay money to renew our permits and continue our education. When donations run out, we pay for our supplies from our own pockets. When you drop off an animal, a donation, no matter big or small can go a long way.

👩‍💻 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍-𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒋𝒐𝒃𝒔.
Remember that unpaid volunteer of the state thing? It is difficult to make a career out of being a Wildlife Rehabber so many of us also have jobs that do not allow us to answer every phone call and message.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒌𝒊𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓.
Juggling parenthood into wildlife rescue is unexplainably difficult. If we’re fielding a call with you and you hear crying or whining kids in the background, it’s not because we are “unprofessional”. It’s because we are dedicated enough to mix helping wildlife into the sacred space of parenting. You should be grateful, not annoyed by that. 

🏠 𝑾𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔.
Nearly all of us are home based wildlife rehabbers, meaning our rescues are on our personal property. We turn bathrooms into exam rooms, garages into quarantine areas, and pool houses into facilities.  When you ask for a “tour” or to “come back and visit” and we say no, we aren’t being mean. We are just setting boundaries.

So as we hit the middle of the busiest season, please share and keep this in mind. Be kind to your local Wildlife Rehabilitator. We do this because we love it and want to help.
