We are very proud of Trooper Tomasello and K9 Stryker!!

On 02-23-2026, Trooper Tomasello and his K9 Partner Stryker were dispatched to a residence in Old Lyme to assist with a domestic disturbance potentially involving a firearm. It was determined that the suspect fled the residence prior to the arrival of Troopers. Trooper Tomasello and K9 Stryker conducted a brief track, which resulted in the suspect being located and taken into custody without further incident. K9 Stryker strikes again!

With a large storm approaching, the Connecticut State Police remind motorists to plan ahead and drive smart. Weather-related crashes are preventable.

DO:
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Turn on headlights when visibility is reduced
• Allow extra travel time and expect delays
• Stay alert for snowplows, emergency vehicles, and disabled cars
• Move over to the next lane when approaching snowplows or slow-moving highway vehicles when safe to do so
• Pull over to a safe location if conditions become unsafe

DON’T:
• Speed or use cruise control in rain, snow, or icy conditions
• Tailgate, pass plows, or make sudden lane changes
• Drive distracted or overconfident in poor conditions
• Stop in travel lanes or on highway shoulders unless it’s an emergency
• Assume roads are safe just because they look clear

Plow Safety Reminder: Snowplows operate at reduced speeds to keep roads safe. Give them space, do not pass, and move over when possible. A few extra minutes can prevent a serious crash.

If you don’t need to be on the road, consider delaying travel until conditions improve. Your patience helps keep everyone safe — including first responders working in the storm.

📞 In an emergency, call 911.
🛣️ Stay safe, Connecticut.

🚨PSA / Message from Resident State Trooper Mark Roberts 🚨

Residents of Essex:

An important reminder from the Resident State Trooper and Town Officers to please lock your vehicles and remove all personal belongings from within when your vehicle is not in use. Vehicle thefts continue to happen throughout the state. These crimes occur when perpetrators seize opportunities by gaining access to unlocked vehicles with the keys left inside.

Saturday night into Sunday, town residents' vehicles in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Deep River and Essex were gone through, and some stolen, during the overnight hours. A vehicle previously stolen from Avon was recovered in Essex. A vehicle stolen from Deep River was later located in the West Hartford / Avon area.

Police strongly encourage and request that you help prevent these incidents by removing your keys, taking or hiding your belongings, and locking your vehicles.

Thank you for helping us keep the residents of Essex safe.
