As rain cancelled many Memorial Day events in the area, The Westbrook American Legion Post 62 and 197 held ceremonies at Woodlawn Cemetery and Riverbank Park to "Remember and Honor" the fallen.

Our Honor Guard was privileged to participate in the ceremonies along with the Westbrook Maine Police Department, members of WHS Marching Band (Gracelyn Gauvin, Orguy Toko, Parker Benedict) and Jeff Peterson who hosted the event.

Now that the sun has come out, please take a moment of your day to remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us. We will forever be grateful for their courage, dedication and sacrifice.

The Westbrook Fire Department was selected by Maine EMS to launch a pilot program to administer Suboxone. Another example of union firefighter paramedics stepping up to meet the growing needs of our community.

This program is possible because of the highly trained, highly educated professionals who answer the call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our members continue to provide advanced lifesaving care while adapting to the evolving challenges facing emergency services and the opioid crisis across Maine.

Like fires, substance use disorder does not discriminate. We are committed to making a difference on this front.

Westbrook fire is advancing their opioid overdose care with Suboxone treatment on-site after Narcan is administered to stop overdoses.

Huge thank you to Saccarappa Lodge, American Red Cross of Northern New England and many others who went out in the community and installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in dozens of Westbrook homes this past weekend. Smoke detectors save lives! 🚨

With the benefit of having 11 members on duty, as well as 4 off duty members in quarters performing various trainings, your professional firefighters were able to successfully handle a busy morning with high acuity calls for service.
Just before 0930 Ladder 4 and later Medic 1 were requested to the town of Windham for their two alarm structure fire. While on scene, Westbrook FD crews assisted with rescue of family pet as well as transport of a patient from the fire scene.
At approximately 0935, Engine 3, Medics 2 and 3 were dispatched for a cardiac arrest with CPR in Westbrook. Both calls highlight the high level of training and commitment to the community our firefighter/EMS personnel possess. During the extended operations at both scenes, additional personnel handled three other emergency responses, 2 fire alarms and a medical call, with the assistance of mutual aid companies. This effort would not have been possible without the benefit of having 11 members on duty as well as the good fortune of having extra hands in quarters (15 total personnel) at the time of these calls for service. Simultaneous calls are very common in Westbrook, full time staffing is the most effective way to combat high call volumes and mitigate high acuity incidents.
