This week, our Tech 1 Culinary Arts students had the unique opportunity to experience Maine’s lobster industry firsthand aboard a working lobster boat. Students learned about the history, practices, and importance of Maine lobstering while observing a variety of lobsters, including an egg-bearing female ("egger") and a lobster regenerating its claw.

During the trip, students actively participated in the lobstering process by filling bait bags, hauling traps, and measuring lobsters to ensure they met legal size requirements. Captain Pete and deckhand Suzanne generously shared their extensive knowledge of Maine’s coastal waters, sustainable fishing practices, and the day-to-day operations of the lobster industry, providing students with an authentic and educational experience.

Following the excursion, students enjoyed a delicious lunch at Flatbread Company. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Lucky Catch Cruises and Flatbread Company for hosting our students and helping make this memorable learning experience possible.

A huge thank you to the Portland Fire Department for spending time with our Fire Fighting students and providing hands-on training with the Jaws of Life! Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to learn from professionals, build critical skills, and gain real-world experience using industry equipment.

We are incredibly grateful for the strong community partnership that helps make these opportunities possible. Working together, we can prepare the next generation of firefighters while strengthening the connections between our school and the community we serve.

Thank you for investing in our students and their future!

A huge thank you to Ron O’Brien from Washington County Community College for stopping by WRVC’s Automotive Technology program today! Mr. O'Brien brought in a hybrid trainer vehicle and gave our students an awesome breakdown of the safety steps required for working on Hybrids and EVs. He also shared some great insights into what WCCC’s auto program has to offer our future graduates.

Thank you, Mr. O'Brien, for an engaging and highly informative presentation. We appreciate you!

WRVC's electrical Technology I students are hitting it out of the park!
Mr. Clark and his students partnered with the athletic department to help wire the new scoreboards at the Westbrook High School baseball field!

This hands-on project gave students the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting while making a lasting impact on our school communities. Next time you are at Westbrook high School for a baseball game, know that lighting up the scoreboard was a real team effort!

Thank you Westbrook High School, their athletic director and to WSD Facilities Department. We are proud of the collaboration!

WRVC's second-year Cosmetology students, along with their instructor, Ms. DeCosta, and WRVC Alumna, Alivia Ladd, hosted a special day of pampering for the first-year students in the program!

As they prepare for graduation, our seniors found a meaningful way to give back to the program by sharing their skills, professionalism, and encouragement with the next group of future cosmetologists.

This experience not only gave the first-year students a relaxing and fun day of pampering, but also created an opportunity to connect with the second-year students they look up to as mentors and role models. We love seeing the supportive culture within our Cosmetology program and the way our students continue to learn from and encourage one another!
