We've been alerted that some scammers are spoofing our number and claiming they are a Westbrook PD Sergeant. The imposter sergeant tells an elaborate story about why the person has a warrant out for their arrest, and then starts asking about bank account information. We will never call you seeking bank account information so you can get your warrant paid off. If you ever have doubts about the veracity of the call, hang up and call us, and a dispatcher/officer can determine if you were speaking with a real officer or not.

There have been a lot of questions about e-bikes and motorized scooters, and what is legal and not legal about them. Attached are some graphics that provide some of those answers. As many of the e-bikes are being operated by juveniles, we are asking parents to review this information, and have a discussion with their children to ensure that they are operating safely and legally.

*If you try to click on one of the graphics and it takes you to a messenger screen, don't worry, you did nothing wrong and did not message the PD. It is a Facebook feature that we cannot change. Just ignore it and click out of it, and you should be able to see the graphics once you do that.

On Monday at approximately 3:55 pm, a Westbrook Police Officer travelling on Brackett Street observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, above the posted speed limit. As the officer turned his cruiser around to conduct a traffic stop, the offending vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Brackett and Pennell Streets, and sped away recklessly on Pennell Street in an attempt to flee the pending traffic stop. At the intersection of Pennell and Maple Streets the driver was unable to make the turn, and he crashed into a parked vehicle. The officer arrived on scene, and took the driver into custody. The driver was not injured.

The driver was identified as a 16-year old male from Westbrook. He was charged with Reckless Conduct, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Failing to Stop for an Officer, and Violation of Conditions of Release. The juvenile was on probation, and a probation hold was authorized on him, so he was transported to the Longcreek Youth Detention Center.
