Tonight, the Westby-Christiana Fire Department trained alongside Westby EMS on a vehicle crash scenario involving patient extrication.

These hands-on drills are a great opportunity to practice the coordination, communication, and teamwork that are so important when we work together at a real emergency. From scene safety and vehicle stabilization to extrication and patient care, every part of the response requires us to work as one team.

A big thank you to our firefighters and EMS crews for putting in the time to train together and continue improving our response to our community.

Here are a few pictures from last night’s National Night Out at the Vernon County Fairgrounds!

WCFD had a wonderful time visiting with members of the community and taking part in this great event. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, attended, and helped make the evening such a success.

We truly appreciate the continued support from our community and look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

We would like to give a huge shout-out and heartfelt thank-you to the Nevi Fest Memorial for their generous donation to the Westby-Christiana Fire Department.

Our department was honored to receive this donation tonight, which will be put toward purchasing new extrication equipment. This equipment will help us better serve our community and assist patients during vehicle accidents and other emergencies.

Since its inception four years ago, the Nevi Fest Memorial has raised approximately $90,000 for local organizations. We are truly honored and humbled to have been selected this year.

We cannot thank the Nevi Fest Memorial, its organizers, supporters, and everyone who contributed enough for their incredible generosity and continued support of our local communities.

It’s going to be hot this week, so please take a few extra precautions.

Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and avoid overdoing it during the hottest part of the day. Check on children, older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may not have access to air conditioning.

Don’t forget about our four-legged friends either. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to rest. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time.

Stay safe, take care of yourself, and look out for one another!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ted Harris.

Ted was a major part of the fire service, both locally and far beyond our area. Through his many years of teaching, there likely isn’t a department around that hasn’t been influenced by Ted in some way. His knowledge, dedication, and willingness to help others made a lasting impact on generations of firefighters.

Ted was also a truly community-oriented person who gave so much of himself to the people and organizations around him. His impact will continue to be felt for many years to come.

Rest easy, Ted. You will be greatly missed.

***Female has been located***

Westby Fire, along with numerous other agencies, is currently assisting with a search near a residence on Rognstad Ridge Road.

Crews are searching for 15-year-old Hope Sanwick, who has been missing from her residence since approximately 2:30 p.m. Her direction of travel is unknown.

The attached photo shows Hope and the clothing she was last seen wearing.

Anyone with information regarding Hope’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
