In our August E-newsletter, Chief McMillin shared about the Police Department's use of drones. The small drone shown here has limited capabilities, so the department will soon get a model with added features. The new Skydio drone is not intended for routine surveillance. Instead, it will be deployed in situations where it can improve safety and provide valuable information during emergencies. Examples include:

· Searching for missing or endangered persons.
· Assisting with searches for suspects who have fled from serious crimes.
· Documenting serious traffic crashes and crime scenes more efficiently, allowing roads to reopen sooner.
· Providing officers with aerial views during hazardous incidents such as barricaded subjects or armed confrontations.
· Assessing natural disasters, severe storms, flooding, or other emergencies.
· Supporting fire and EMS personnel during emergency operations.
· Assisting with large community events by identifying safety concerns and improving emergency coordination.
· Avoid placing officers, firefighters, or community members in dangerous situations.

Development & Zoning Director Shafer reports that the planned residential development, Miraluna, will move forward after nearly four years of meetings, discussions, and revisions. The new neighborhood, whose name is an intentional reference to the nearby Mirasol, will be constructed by Romanelli & Hughes and is to be located on more than 120 acres situated along the west side of Rome Corners Road. It will consist of 150 single-family homes surrounded by an open space perimeter buffer and interspersed with four uniquely themed parklets. A portion of the plan will be branded as Villas at Miraluna and will include lawn maintenance service similar to that of condominiums. Sanitary sewer service will be provided via the new county-owned sewer line being installed along Interstate 71 through numerous properties, including Freeman's Farm and the sledding hill. Site preparation in the form of tree clearing and earth moving has already begun; however, as of the date of writing, final engineering and subdivision plat approvals will need to be obtained before the plan can enter the next stage of construction. The location and a link to the plan materials can be found online at www.GenoaTwp.com/_T14_R1349.php
