Caleb Goode is one of our firefighters. The following was posted by his fiance Riley Guba. Our hearts go out to Caleb and Riley along with their family.
A little life update we never expected to be sharing…
A little while back, we found a lump on Caleb’s back. What started as something we hoped was nothing turned into appointment after appointment, scans, surgery, and a lot of waiting for answers. We recently got the pathology results back and learned that Caleb has CIC sarcoma.
Today, we’re on our way to New York City to meet with a specialist who specializes in CIC sarcoma, get a plan in place, and start taking this thing head-on. If you know Caleb, you know he’s a fighter. He is one of the strongest and toughest people I know, and I know he’s going to face this with everything he has. I’ll be right there beside him through every appointment, every treatment, every hard day, and every single victory.
He’s truly my best friend, my safe place, and my soulmate. We have a whole life ahead of us! Our wedding, building our family, traveling, growing old together, and making a million more memories!!
So please keep Caleb in your prayers and send all the good vibes, love, and strength his way. We’re staying super positive, keeping our faith in God, and ready to fight like hell.
Cancer picked the wrong mo********er.
We’re beating this sh*t!!!!🎗️💪❤️
💛 Update on Caleb 💛
First, we just want to thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, messages, phone calls, and support you have shown Caleb and our entire family. We truly cannot put into words how much it means to us. We love and appreciate every single one of you.
I also want to apologize if we haven’t personally thanked you, returned a phone call, or responded to a message. Please know that we see them and they mean more than you know. Life has been a whirlwind of appointments, phone calls, traveling, and trying to figure out everything that comes next for Caleb. There just haven’t been enough hours in the day, but please don’t mistake any of our lack of response for a lack of appreciation. ❤️
Yesterday we traveled to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to meet with the team there and determine the best plan moving forward.
As of right now, Caleb will undergo 10–12 months of chemotherapy, every 14 days, beginning next week at Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in downtown Cleveland.
He will also need another major surgery to remove a significant amount of soft tissue from his lower left back. At this point, that surgery is planned to take place at MSK in New York.
They also completed scans to determine the current status of the cancer and whether it has spread anywhere else. Right now, this is what we are praying so incredibly hard for — that those scans show the cancer has not moved to any other areas. 🙏
Monday is going to be another very long day. Caleb has appointments throughout the day at Cleveland Clinic with oncology, surgery, fertility, and with other members of his care team. He is also scheduled to have his chemo port placed in his chest. If everything can be completed and lined up Monday, he will be admitted to begin chemotherapy.
Please continue to keep Caleb in your prayers, especially as we wait for the scan results and prepare for him to begin chemotherapy. Pray that the cancer is still localized, that his body handles treatment well, that the treatment does exactly what we need it to do, and that he has the strength to get through the months ahead.
To everyone who has reached out, prayed, offered to help, checked on us, or simply reminded us that we’re not going through this alone — thank you. We feel the love surrounding Caleb and our family, and we will never forget it.
We love and appreciate you all more than we could ever say. ❤️🙏
