Today, we celebrate all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who lead with strength, compassion, and dedication—both at home and in our community.

Tour 1 is on duty today, serving our residents while spending Father's Day away from their own families.

From all of us at the Westfield Fire Department, we wish everyone a safe and Happy Father's Day!

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Franklin Elementary School during their visit to Town Hall!

Students had the opportunity to meet firefighters, tour the fire apparatus, and learn about the important role the fire department plays in keeping our community safe. Firefighters also shared valuable fire safety information, including what to do in an emergency, the importance of smoke alarms, and how to stay safe at home.

We always enjoy connecting with our community's youngest residents and helping them learn about fire safety in a fun and interactive way. Hope everyone had a great time and learned something new!

At approximately 2:30 p.m. today, multiple 9-1-1 calls were received reporting a fully involved dumpster fire in the area of Forest Avenue and Eaglecroft Road. Town of Westfield, NJ Police Department officers arrived shortly thereafter and located a 30-yard dumpster engulfed in flames in the driveway of a home under construction.

Ladder 1 and Engine 2 responded to the scene and quickly brought the fire under control. Fortunately, the dumpster was positioned far enough away from the residence to prevent the fire from extending to the structure. Fire Department personnel remained on scene for approximately one hour and 45 minutes conducting extinguishment operations and ensuring the area was safe.

On Friday, members of the Westfield Fire Department proudly displayed a large American flag over the roadway in support of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run as it passed through Westfield.

The Torch Run carries the "Flame of Hope" across New Jersey, raising awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey. We were honored to support our partners at the Westfield Police Department, as well as all of the law enforcement officers, volunteers, and participants who took part in this inspiring event.

The Westfield Fire Department is proud to stand alongside the Town of Westfield, NJ Police Department in supporting this important cause and the remarkable athletes of Special Olympics New Jersey.

Thank you to all the runners and supporters who help keep the Flame of Hope burning bright.

Today, the Westfield Fire Department joins our nation in remembering and honoring the brave men who took part in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Known as the beginning of the end of World War II in Europe, D-Day was one of the largest and most complex military operations in history. More than 156,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, facing fierce resistance as they fought to liberate Europe from tyranny. Thousands made the ultimate sacrifice, while countless others endured unimaginable hardship in the name of freedom.

The courage displayed on the beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword remains an enduring example of selfless service, determination, and sacrifice. Young Americans—many barely out of high school—answered the call of duty and willingly faced extraordinary danger to defend the ideals of liberty and democracy.

As firefighters, we understand the importance of answering the call when others are in need. While the challenges we face are different, the values demonstrated by the Greatest Generation—courage, commitment, teamwork, and service before self—continue to inspire those who dedicate their lives to serving their communities.

Today, we remember not only those who stormed the beaches of Normandy, but also the sailors, airmen, medics, and support personnel whose collective efforts helped change the course of history. We also honor the families who waited anxiously at home and the generations of veterans who continued to serve long after the war ended.

As time passes and the number of surviving D-Day veterans grows smaller, it becomes increasingly important that we preserve their stories and ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy every day and in the values that continue to define our nation.

The Westfield Fire Department proudly pauses to reflect on the extraordinary bravery of the Allied forces who participated in D-Day. We are forever grateful to those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who gave their lives in defense of freedom.

On this anniversary of D-Day, we remember them. We honor them. We thank them.
