🚒 A PIECE OF WESTFIELD FIRE HISTORY IS COMING HOME! 🚒

Something special rolled into Westfield Fire Department Station 84 recently… and we're excited to give you a sneak peek! 👀

Two of our department's original antique fire trucks have arrived at Station 84, where they will soon be proudly displayed in the station's museum!

These historic trucks represent more than just firefighting equipment. They are a connection to our department's past, the generations of firefighters who served before us, and the rich history of protecting the Westfield community.

We're proud to preserve these pieces of history and share them with future generations.

🚨 SAFETY REMINDER: WATCH OUT FOR PEDESTRIANS & BICYCLISTS! 🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚗

The Westfield Fire Department wants to remind everyone of the importance of staying alert and sharing our roadways safely.

Recently, our community has experienced several incidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists being struck by vehicles. These incidents serve as an important reminder that a moment of distraction can have life-changing consequences.

⚠️ DRIVERS – STAY ALERT!
🚗 Slow down, especially in neighborhoods, school zones, and areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.

👀 Always watch for pedestrians and bicyclists, particularly at intersections and crosswalks.

📱 Put your phone down! Distracted driving puts everyone at risk.

↪️ Look carefully before turning and always yield to pedestrians when required.

🚴 PEDESTRIANS & BICYCLISTS – BE SEEN, BE SAFE!

🚶 Use sidewalks, crosswalks, and designated bike lanes whenever available.

👀 Make sure drivers see you before crossing, and never assume a vehicle will stop.

💡 Wear bright or reflective clothing and use proper lighting when walking or biking in low-light conditions.

🚴‍♂️ Bicyclists should wear helmets, follow traffic laws, and ride predictably.

❤️ EVERYONE HAS A ROLE IN ROADWAY SAFETY.

Whether you're behind the wheel, walking through a neighborhood, or enjoying a bike ride, please take a few extra seconds to look out for one another.

🚒🔥 QUICK ACTION MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

The Westfield Fire Department recently responded to a local grocery store for a small fire involving a commercial cooler. Fortunately, the fire was successfully extinguished using a portable fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

This incident is a great reminder of how effective a fire extinguisher can be when used properly and when conditions are safe.

🧯 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS SAVE PROPERTY — BUT ALWAYS CALL 911!

Even when a fire appears to be completely extinguished, it's important to notify the fire department.

🔥 Hidden Fire: Heat or fire may remain inside equipment, walls, or other concealed spaces, creating the potential for rekindling.

💨 Smoke & Toxic Gases: Even a small fire can produce hazardous smoke and gases that may remain after the flames are out.

⚡ Electrical Hazards: Fires involving electrical equipment may leave behind energized components or other hazards that need to be evaluated.

🚒Firefighters have specialized equipment, including thermal imaging cameras, to help identify hidden heat and confirm that conditions are safe.

Only attempt to use a fire extinguisher on a small, contained fire if you have a clear escape route, know how to use the extinguisher, and can do so safely. Never delay calling 911 or put yourself at risk.

❤️ The bottom line: Just because the flames are out doesn't mean the danger is gone.

The Westfield Fire Department encourages all businesses and residents to know where their fire extinguishers are located, ensure they are properly maintained, and remember to always report a fire, even if it has already been extinguished.

🔥🚒 It's Fire Prevention Week!
It's National Fire Prevention Week, and the Westfield Fire Department is joining the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in reminding our community that fire safety starts at home! 🏠

Fire Prevention Week is a great opportunity to talk with your family about simple steps that can help prevent fires and keep everyone safe.

🚨 Test your smoke alarms! Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas.

🚪 Have an escape plan! Know two ways out of every room and practice your home fire escape plan with your family.

🍳 Stay alert while cooking! Unattended cooking is a leading cause of home fires.

🔌 Use electricity safely! Avoid overloading outlets and replace damaged electrical cords.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Get the whole family involved! Teach children what to do when a smoke alarm sounds and where to meet outside.

At the Westfield Fire Department, fire prevention and Community Risk Reduction are important parts of our mission. Through education, outreach, and community partnerships, we're working to prevent emergencies before they happen.

🔥⚡ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026! ⚡🔥

It's Fire Prevention Week, and this year's NFPA theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!"

From cell phones and laptops to power tools, e-bikes, and scooters, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives. But when damaged or charged improperly, these batteries can become a serious fire hazard.

🦸 Put your fire safety superpowers to work!

🔋 Use only manufacturer-recommended batteries and chargers.

⚡ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces away from anything that can burn.

🚫 Never charge devices under pillows, on beds, or where they could block an exit.

🔥 Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, overheating, or giving off unusual odors.

🔌 Unplug devices when charging is complete.

The Westfield Fire Department is committed to keeping our community safe through fire prevention, education, and Community Risk Reduction. Small changes in everyday habits can make a big difference in preventing fires.

🚲 Bike Safety, Big Smiles, and a Great Day with Cub Pack 126! 🚒

The Westfield Fire Department had a great time participating in Cub Pack 126’s Bike Rodeo at Maple Glen Elementary School!

Our firefighters and CRR Specialist helped young riders learn the importance of bicycle safety through hands-on education and provided free bike helmets with proper fittings to help keep kids safe while enjoying their bikes.

🚴 Bike Safety Tips for Kids:
✅ Wear your helmet every ride! Make sure it fits snugly, sits level on your head, and the chin strap is securely fastened.

✅ Look both ways! Always stop and check for traffic before crossing streets or driveways.

✅ Be seen! Wear bright clothing and use bike lights when visibility is low.

✅ Follow the rules! Ride in the same direction as traffic, obey traffic signs, and use hand signals when turning.

✅ Stay alert! Keep both hands ready to control your bike and watch for cars, pedestrians, and other obstacles.

A properly fitted helmet can make a lifesaving difference in the event of a crash!

🚒 Station 383 Open House — Thank You, Westfield! 🚒
Station 383’s Open House was a wonderful success! We enjoyed welcoming our community into the station and sharing more about the services your Westfield firefighters provide every day.
Throughout the event, visitors had the opportunity to explore the fire engine, learn how to check blood pressure, practice hands-only CPR, meet our firefighters, and learn more about fire and life safety.
Many guests told us they had no idea Station 383 offered so many services and resources. That feedback is exactly why Community Risk Reduction (CRR), fire safety education, and community outreach are so important.
Events like this allow us to build relationships, increase awareness, answer questions, and connect residents with resources available right here in their community.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, participated, and spent part of their day with us. We’re proud to serve Westfield and always appreciate the opportunity to connect with the community we protect.
