Westfield firefighters are selling breast cancer awareness shirts, with proceeds benefiting a Riverview Health Foundation fund established to support local residents affected by breast cancer.

Westfield Fire Department crews, assisted by Noblesville Fire Department, responded to a reported residential fire on Colleton Ct. this afternoon. First-arriving crews found fire burning between the basement and first floor. Crews quickly worked to locate and extinguish the fire, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Training for the Worst-Case Scenario

What happens when a firefighter needs CPR while still in full gear?

Our crews recently trained on performing CPR while wearing their full protective equipment. Training in gear presents unique challenges, including limited mobility, weight, and working around bulky equipment.

You may notice one of our firefighters wearing blue gear during this training. This is our new training gear, designed to reduce exposure to cancer-causing contaminants during training evolutions where there is no fire or life hazard.

We’re committed to preparing our crews for real-world emergencies while also finding ways to reduce unnecessary exposures during training.

Today, our Battalion Chief conducted impromptu training designed to test crew readiness and decision-making when responding to different types of fires. Crews were challenged to assess situations, develop a plan, and put their skills into action.

Unannounced training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to perform when the call comes, regardless of what they encounter.
