Recently, members (left to right) Bram Wood, Cody Rudy, Andrew Smith, and Abby Poynter spent their weekend at ESEC in Indianapolis participating in a two-day Live Fire Search class hosted by Indiana Smoke Divers.

Searching for and rescuing occupants in a burning building is one of the most critical jobs firefighters perform. Training in realistic live-fire conditions helps our crews build the skills, confidence, and decision-making abilities needed to operate effectively in low-visibility, high-stress environments.

The knowledge and experience gained through this training strengthens our department’s readiness and helps ensure we are prepared to serve the Westfield community when seconds matter most.

This week, North Side Fire Academy recruits are participating in Vehicle Extrication training. After a day in the classroom, recruits are spending the remainder of the week applying those skills through hands-on training scenarios. Upon successful completion, they will earn their Vehicle Rescuer Operations certification.

A special thank you to Martin from Impact Rescue for sharing his expertise in vehicle rescue techniques and Holmatro extrication equipment. We also want to recognize Paddack’s Towing for their continued support of the North Side Fire Academy and Westfield Fire Department. Their willingness to host training events and provide resources plays a vital role in preparing our firefighters for real-world emergencies.

Strong partnerships help build strong firefighters, and we are grateful for their ongoing commitment to training and public safety.

What a great outcome and story that shares the importance of CPR during CPR and AED Awareness Week 2026!

For Westfield resident Bob Schriner, the evening of Aug. 22, 2025, was shaping up to be like any other summer Friday. “My wife (Maureen) told me the Greek Fest was going on,” Schriner said. “I like gyros and I like beer, so I was excited and I jumped on my bike,” Schriner pedaled toward West...

Our crews had the chance to see retired Chief Bob Smith out this evening and were treated to some ice cream as well. It’s always great catching up with former chiefs and reconnecting with those who helped build the foundation of our department. Thanks for the visit and the ice cream, Chief!

Our crews recently stopped by a local lemonade stand to purchase lemonade and friendship bracelets while supporting a great cause.

We appreciate the hard work, big hearts and entrepreneurial spirit behind the stand. Thank you for the lemonade, the bracelets and the warm welcome. Community connections like these make our day! And yes, the firefighter pictured is a Swiftie!

Thank you to IPEP and Hamilton County Fire Fighters Local 4416 for the donuts and for helping recognize Mental Health Awareness Month. Supporting the mental, emotional, and behavioral health of first responders is important, and we appreciate your continued commitment to caring for those who care for others.

The conversations, support, and reminders to check in on one another matter just as much as the treats. Thank you for supporting our firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs.

Yesterday, B Shift crews continued a Memorial Day tradition by taking on the Murph workout — a challenging tribute honoring Lt. Michael P. Murphy and all who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The Murph consists of:
🏃‍♂️ 1-mile run
💪 100 pull-ups
💪 200 push-ups
💪 300 air squats
🏃‍♂️ 1-mile run

Many complete it while wearing a weighted vest to represent the burden carried by our military members.

Memorial Day is about remembrance, and for our crews, the Murph is one small way to honor the courage, sacrifice and legacy of those who gave everything for our freedom.
