08/28/2026

On 08/25/2026 at approximately 11:12pm Officers of the Westfield Police Department were dispatched to 75 Union Street for a reported physical altercation.
After investigating the incident, authorities determined that Roman J. Weaver of Westfield allegedly pushed the victim into a table and then held a bathroom door shut, preventing her from leaving the residence.
Upon further investigation it was determined that there was an order of protection in place, which lead to Weaver being charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd. Weaver was also charged with Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd, Criminal Mischief 4th and Harassment 2nd.
Weaver was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail to be arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) program.

On July 30, 2026, at approximately 1204 hours, the Westfield Police Department responded to a
motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and a child bicyclist on Union Street in the Village of
Westfield.
Prior to the arrival of emergency responders, Phin Rogers and Addison Luce, who witnessed
the incident, immediately came to the aid of the injured child. Without hesitation or direction, they utilized the training and experience they had acquired as lifeguards with the Village of Westfield Welch Field Program to provide care, comfort, and reassurance to the victim.
Remaining calm under pressure, they comforted the frightened child, shielded him from the sun with umbrellas, placed towels beneath his head for support, and respectfully covered his injured legs with a blanket while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical personnel. Recognizing the importance of emotional support, Phin and Addison also used their familiarity with the child through the Welch Field Program to quickly contact the child's parent. Their efforts enabled the child to speak with a parent during a traumatic and frightening event while ensuring the family was promptly notified of the incident.
The selfless actions of Phin Rogers and Addison Luce were performed without regard for personal recognition or reward. Their initiative, sound judgment, compassion, and professionalism provided comfort and reassurance to an injured child during a critical incident and exemplify the highest ideals of community service, civic responsibility, and public service.
In grateful recognition of their outstanding actions and exemplary character, the Westfield Police Department proudly awards this Civilian Commendation to Phin J. Rogers and Addison C. Luce.

On July 22, 2026, at approximately 5:38 p.m., Officers of the Westfield Police Department were dispatched to the area of Route 5 and Route 394 in the Town of Westfield for a report of a 2-year-old child walking unattended in the roadway. The incident was reported by a good samaritan. Further investigation determined that the child belonged to Cortland J. Hepfner and Sydney E. Switzer. It was found that Switzer was responsible for the child at the time of the incident. Additionally, the child's residence was found to be in deplorable condition and posed a danger to the child's well-being. Switzer was issued appearance tickets for two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, while Hepfner was issued one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Switzer and Hepfner are both set to appear in the Town of Westfield Court at a later date to answer the charges.

07/29/2026

On July 17th, 2026, at approximately 5:37pm Officers of the Westfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Academy Street in the Village of Westfield. The operator was identified as Peter W. Zachmann. Further investigation found that Zachmann to be Driving While Intoxicated. Zachmann was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Drinking Alcohol or Using Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle on Highway. Zachmann will appear at Westfield Town Court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The Westfield Police Department has located a brown and black horse on Sherman Westfield Road.

On July 17, 2026, at approximately 10:41 PM, Officers of the Westfield Police Department were dispatched to Crosby’s located at 128 E Main St, Westfield, NY 14787, for the report of a shoplifting. Through investigation, it was determined that Maureen S. Presto (Age: 51) of Westfield, allegedly placed items into her purse and left the store without paying for said items.Presto was charged with NYS PL 155.25 Petit Larceny and will appear at Westfield Town Court at later date to answer the charge.

07/18/2026

On 7/17/2026 at approximately 10:32 a.m., the Westfield Police Department responded to Moore Park in the Village of Westfield for a report of a suspicious situation. A concerned citizen reported that two individuals were using drugs in plain view at the gazebo.
Westfield Police Department officers and Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene and identified Daniel S. Geiger, age 34, of Westfield, New York. Geiger was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and appeared to be impaired. During a search, officers located a small quantity of fentanyl in Geiger's possession.
During the investigation, officers also determined that Geiger had an active bench warrant through the Evans Police Department. Geiger was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and issued an Appearance Ticket. He was subsequently turned over to the Evans Police Department on the outstanding bench warrant.
Geiger is scheduled to appear before the Town of Westfield Court at a later date in connection with the Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree charge.
