🚓🚨Public Safety Night is Tonight! 🚑🐾

We're looking forward to seeing everyone this evening at Public Safety Night at the old Juniper Park School, 715 Western Avenue, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

While there is a chance of a little rain, the event is still on and we have plenty of activities, equipment, demonstrations, food, and information waiting for you. Grab your raincoat or umbrella just in case and come join us for a fun evening with your local public safety professionals!

Parking is available in the Westfield State University parking lots on Ely Road (see map below).

Don't let the possibility of a few raindrops keep you away! We can't wait to see you tonight!

🚓🚨Join Us for Westfield Public Safety Night!🚨🚓

The Westfield Police Department invites you to join us this Thursday, June 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the former Juniper Park School, located at 715 Western Avenue, for an evening of fun, education, and community engagement.

There will be plenty of activities, demonstrations, equipment displays, food, community resources and opportunities to meet the public safety professionals who serve Westfield every day. And of course, everyone’s favorite comfort dog, Joules, will be there to greet visitors!

We are also excited to introduce the newest member of the Westfield Police Department Family. Making his very first public appearance, Patrol K-9 Jericho will be joining us for Public Safety Night! While he may not be quite as interested in belly rubs as Joules, we’re sure he’ll enjoy meeting members of the community as he begins his service with the WPD.

******UPDATE 6/15/26********

On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at approximately 9:24 a.m., the Westfield Police Department received a report of an unattended kayak floating in the middle of Long Pond, off Long Pond Road.

Officers responded to the area and requested assistance from the Westfield Fire Department. Upon arrival, responders determined that the kayak was anchored in the middle of the pond. Because the circumstances surrounding the vessel were unknown, and out of an abundance of caution, the incident was treated as a potential missing person investigation.

Police officers conducted an extensive canvass of the surrounding area and made contact with as many nearby residents as possible. An aerial drone was deployed to assist in the search, and a regional dive team conducted searches both on and below the water. Investigators also contacted the Hampton Ponds Association and shared information about the unattended kayak through social media in an effort to identify its owner and determine whether anyone was missing.

Despite these efforts, no information was developed indicating that a person was in distress. Search operations were suspended at approximately 3:30 p.m.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on June 14, 2026, the Westfield Police Department received a phone call from an individual who reported seeing our social media post and explained that the kayak belonged to her father and that he was safe.

As of 8:00 a.m. on June 15, 2026, the Westfield Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandoned kayak. However, based on the information received, the incident is no longer being treated as a missing person case.

The Westfield Police Department joins the International Association of Chiefs of Police in promoting responsible firearm ownership and safe firearm storage. Taking simple steps to secure fi****ms can help prevent accidents, thefts, and unauthorized access, especially by children.

Gun safety is important every day of the year. We encourage all firearm owners to practice safe storage habits and make firearm safety a priority in their homes.

Together, we can help keep our families and community safe.

As we recognize Gun Safety Awareness Month, pediatricians and law enforcement professionals are coming together around a shared message: safe storage saves lives.

Fi****ms are now the leading cause of death for children and teens.

🚨🚨Sunday 6/7/2026 Ironman Race will be bicycling through Westfield on its 70.3 mile journey. Shaker Road from Little River Road to Laro Road will be closed to traffic early Sunday morning and reopen early afternoon. Detour will be Laro Road and Pontoosic Road. Residence in the Munger Hill/Ridgecrest area need to exit the neighborhood on Ridgecrest Drive. Residence in Glenwood need to go right out of the neighborhood. The map below shows the route the bicyclist will take in blue. The road and lane closure in red. The detour in orange. Expect bicylist in the areas in blue and red. Please plan ahead there will be delays! Follow the detour signs and detail officers. Drive safe. Westfield Police Traffic Bureau🚨🚨

Good news for safe cyclists who love ice cream! 🍦🚴

The Westfield Police Department has partnered with Westfield Gas + Electric/Whip City Fiber to recognize and reward youth in our community for wearing helmets and practicing safe cycling habits.

If a Westfield police officer sees you wearing a helmet while riding your bike, scooter, or skateboard — or notices you practicing safe cycling — you may be stopped and rewarded with a coupon for a free ice cream cone good at either Mrs. C’s Soft Serve, Mr. Whipy’s, or Northside Creamery!

Have you met Joules yet? 🐾

Joules is the Westfield Police Department’s comfort dog, and she’ll be out and about next weekend visiting several community events!

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Joules and a couple of her police officer friends will be stopping by:

🌈 Rainbows Over Elm Pridefest at the Elm Street Plaza beginning at 11:00 a.m.

🍻 Brewfest at the Central Street municipal parking lot after 1:00 p.m.
