The department consists of a patrol unit, responsible for the day to day emergency calls for service and is the backbone of the police department. They consist of:

Community Services Unit (formerly community police unit)
Detective Bureau
Narcotics unit. The Westfield Police Department Detective Bureau is responsible for the investigation of all incidents that require extended investigations beyond the initial report. The narcotics unit also falls within the scope of the Detective Bureau. DAY SHIFT (8-4)
Detective Lieutenant Scott Phelon is the Commander of the Detective Bureau. He is directly responsible for the effective functioning of the unit and the supervision of all detectives. Phelon is also involved in the investigation of major crimes. Detective Chris Coach, General criminal investigator

EVENING SHIFT (4-12)
Detective Sergeant Brian Freeman is second in command of the Detective Bureau and the supervisor of the evening shift detectives. Freeman is also involved in the investigation of major crimes

Detective Sergeant Brian Freeman is responsible for investigating narcotics related criminal activity.

Civilian fingerprinting will be limited to Westfield Residents Only. Fingerprinting will be done for employment and Massachusetts gun permits only. Please Note: Fingerprinting will not be done for out of state fi****ms applications. New License to Carry applicants MUST have completed an approved fi****ms safety course. New Fi****ms Identification Card applicants must have an approved basic hunter safety course. Active and Reserve Military members do not need to complete the safety course but must bring a military ID at the time of their appointment.
